omg, talk about a typo error. Quiche not kisch or whatever I wrote previously, lol
Have you tried the Stuffed Chicken at Sobeys? It is divine. It is similar to having a turkey, but MUCH less work. Just pop the chicken in the oven for about 3hrs. With the leftovers (if there are any) can be used for making another meal like Broccoli and Chicken Bake for the day after when no one feels like cooking.
Otherwise if you're thinking something breakfasty then this is what my family does for New Years brunch. It is set out buffet style.
Melon balls for starters.
Pouched eggs on a slice of ham on whitebread. Both bread and ham are cut in a circle with a round cookie cutter to match the shape of the pouched eggs.
A good dollop of hollandaise sauce on top.
Bacon
Fried tomatoes
A kisch
Croissants with jam for dessert
Christmas cake or pud with coffee.
man, I miss this food!!!
This I make the day before and keep it covered with Saran in the frig. For a large crowd use 2 8"x8" pans to serve 12 people. You cannot double this into a larger pan as the middle will not cook properly. Use 2 pans. The tin foil pans work well and no pans to wash up later. Everyone loves this dish at a brunch.
French Toast Raphael
Ingredients:
6 cups white bread, crusts removed and cut into 1" cubes (I use whole wheat)
6 oz. (170 g) cream cheese, cut into small cubes
6 eggs, well beaten
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 cup maple syrup
Instructions:
Place half the bread in a greased 8"x8" pan. Dot cheese on top. Cover with remaining bread. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over all. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, remove plastic and bake in preheated 375 F. oven for 45 minutes. It will be puffy and golden. Serve immediately with extra maple syrup and bacon or sausages or sliced ham. Serves 6
Anna Olsen just did a News Day Brunch on Cityline check out their wbsite and the recipes are on there.
Bake a Ham they are easy put in the oven at 325 and forget it they don't take long depending on size about 20 minutes per pound and that will look after your meat dish and a nice switch from turkey. When buying the ham look for the shank portion not the butt the butt has to much bone and is hard to carve. The Shank will have to different looking pices buythe one that has a grain running through it that looks like a horseshoe, pick the ham up and look at the cut side point the bone end up and you will see the horseshoe shaped fat grain running through it. This is the best one to buy as it has the least amount of bone and it the easiest part of the ham to carve. Another option to French Toast is waffles if you have a waffle maker and then just set out bowls with different topping ( strawberries blueberries ) or different syrups and people can load their own. Buy an assortment of muffins and find a place that makes a really good coffee cake and put it out whole and they can help them selves. Are you planning a sit down or buffet style as a buffet is so much easier. Try to have some breakfast items and some lunch items such as a salad and a cassarole that you make ahead or buy the ham for meat and muffins or coffee cake them some dessert items pick up at costco a couple of different slabs of squares and some fruit and of course champagne and you are good to go.
don't forget fresh fruit...and strawberries for the rims of your champagne flutes.
every boxing day hubby and i host a champagne brunch...and serve lots of yummy breakfast foods. i've attached the recipe of my favorite strata.
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/107754. it's always a hit, and easy to make.
one of the easiest things to make, that i love is stuffed french toast...and you can use pretty much anything sweet as the filler...cream cheese and apricot jam, canned peaches with brown sugar and cinammon...i prefer to use thick slices of homemade bread. these can be made ahead and left warming in the oven.
go to your local bakery and pick out all sorts of different breads and bagels. smoked salmon and capers is a must.
don't forget lots and lots of chilled champagne or other bubbly beverages.
