please tell me that i am not the only one that this has happened to...on tuesday i installed a new kitchen faucet that DH bought me...with the pull out handle and soap dispenser...did everything my daddy told me to do when you install a faucet...put newspaper down under the pipes and run the tap for a while to make sure there are no leaks...ok did that...no leaks...woooohoooo!!!!...i've installed faucets before with no leaks before...no problem...ok...used the tap all day on wednesday...no problems still no leaks...love the new faucet...so excited about it...yes i get excited about new faucets and lights...hell i got excited when i got a new vacuum..anyhew...thursday had a doctors appt. at 10:30 am down at Yonge and St. Clair...usually takes me about 1 hr and 15 minutes to get there...but i had to take my mom too...so i left my house at 7:30 am to get to my moms at 8:45 am...shot the sh*t with my mom there for a while...raided the fridge...the usual stuff....leave for the doctors...yada yada yada...get home at 4 pm...walk in the door and hear water...i thought great i left the tap on...for those of you NOT on well water...it's not good when you leave the water running...you could burn out your well pump...so i walk into the kitchen only to find................. MY KITCHEN WAS FLOODED!!!!!!!!!!!.... ...yup... so i ran to the sink and shut the stuff off valves off....go down into my basement...to find that my basement is covered in water...man did you know that ceiling tiles hold water like a sponge...turns out the lil bushing that holds the water supply tube and the compression fitting slipped off...and the water was gushing out...for how long...i have no idea...so i spent 5 hours last nite cleaning up water with my shop-vac...oh and the ceiling tiles...they make a huge mess...when i went to pull down one of the tiles...does anyone remember the movie ''Flashdance'' the scene where she sits on the chair and pulls the cord and all the water comes pouring down...ya all i was missing was the chair.....my floor is laminate flooring down there....well i suspect that the carboard flooring is totally and utterly screwed now...and i still have cleaning up to do...i concentrated on just getting the water off the floor yesterday...but i still have tiles that have to come down...and now i'm afraid that my basement is gonna have a musty smell and any water that i happen to miss is gonna create mold....so that was my day...how was yours?.... anyone know how to make a crying smiley....WAAAAAAAHHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

yikes! my thoughts are with you. Hope all turns out well.
hopefully the sponge tiles took most of the water, as you said cheaper to replace those than laminate...
might be a good idea, even if the surface water is gone, to ventilate the heck out of the basement (either those rental disaster cleanup fans, or good cross-ventilation through windows - actually your new central air should help dehumidify the house as well)
jenjen!!!
That really sucks!! I have no suggestions, just wanted to let you know that I feel for ya!!! (It is amazing how heavy that stuff gets, eh? I had a pipe burst in our garage when we were on vacation, the drywall fell down and froze to the top of dh's car!!!!)
Best of luck dealing with the mess and dh!!

I actually DO remember that scene in Flashdance. Oh dear!
I wonder if you might benefit from those fans the restoration companies use to dry out things when fixing up damage caused by water leaks? They might help speed up the process. A friend of mine had those things going for days whan they had repairs to their bathroom.
I feel for you, having lived through it myself - sorry, but I was in the middle of painting / stripping when I caught your post, and just HAD to say about the insurance . . . then back out to strip the bubbling paint off
Anyway, hope things work out OK
oh don't worry shop...i tried very hard to leave all that out...incase it bothers anyone...ya i'm in a better mood now...i don't think i'm gonna call the insurance...i went down and did a survey...i managed to get all the water cleaned up and everything is dry...atleast what i can see...the laminte seems to be ok so far...but i'm sure it's not completly dry...i guess i'll have to wait and see what happens and how it reacts as it is drying out completly...besides i wanna do ceramic tile down there anyways...maybe now i'll have the reason to... :D ...the ceiling tiles got the brunt of it all...i counted 30 celing tiles in total that need to be replaced...but some of them are not full tiles...some of them are half tiles and lil pieces...so i think provided that the floor is ok...it's just the ceiling tiles that are gonna have to be replaced...and they cost something like $25 for 10 pieces so my deductible would be more than what the ceiling tiles will cost...so all in all i don't think it ended up being as bad as it first looked...i hope... :(
for you. What an awful thing to happen considering all was well for a day or two. I can relate because we had a huge flood in our basement(sump pump problem)
Yes, call your insurance. We had cleaned up most of our problem before the adjuster came. They were very helpful.
M y goodness, I am so sorry Jenjen. You did seem to be in a much better mood the way your post sounded. I think mine would have been filled with *(#^%^I@#*$% #^$*#%$* :)
Hopefully everything turns out and the insurance can still be of help.
It is not to late to call the insurance company i had a toilet break and we were aweay all day. We arrived home at 8pm so I had to clean it up and I called them the next day and they fixed everything. We had to pay the deductable but it was far less than the cost to replace everything. Mine was also on the main floor and my basement got the worst of it .That is why we pay insurance in ase something happens.
france....thank you...i like that Martha Stewart on speed...ha!!!...that's a good one...and i take that as a great compliment.... ;)
he's gotta know how good he has it! you're like Martha on speed...
and i mean that in the sincerest form of flattery too.
good idea about calling the insurance they may help.
lol...he did at first...gave me the old ''if you're not capable of doing something then don't do it''...but he quickly took it back after i shoved it down his throat...lol...jk..he took it back when i freaked out at him...telling him that if was a lil more handy around here then maybe it wouldn't have happened...all he does is cut the grass...i'm the one that does all and i mean all the cleaning around here...he doesn't even put his dinner plate in the sink...i do all the painting...i did all the laminate floors...i finished the fireplace....all the electical lights etc...lets see what else...painting...and the list goes on...the only thing i haven't learnt how to do is ceramic tile.. and that's cuz my daddy won't teach me..cuz he knows once i learn how to do that...i'll be doing it ll ove the house...i am a bit stubborn that way...and now that he has 3 dump trucks parked here...i'm the one that goes out at nite and check the oil, check the hubs, thump tires, fill all the fluids in the truck...the only thing i don't do is drive the frickin' things...which is next on my list....btw..thanks for letting me vent...
Jen, give the insurance company a call now. They will be able to see the damage done and also they would not expect you to not do a clean up.
So sorry this happened.
reno...funny you should mention that...that's what my dad told me to do...he works for Servicemaster...the company that the insurance companies send out to do all of that...i look now and i think i should have done that...but i managed to get 95% of it up...my dad said exactly what you said...they come in clean it all up and the adjuster comes in and they would replace the bottom of the cabinet under the sink all the kick plates under the cabinet...the floor in the basement the ceiling tiles everything...cuz that what he does...not the clean up but all the replacing of everything...but i managed to get most of it cleaned up before DH got home so to him it didn't look like alot of water...i had been cleaning for 2 hours by then...so i don't know what i'm gonna do...not sure if i should call them or if it's too late...cuz the laminate is gonna peel i think...*sigh*...
i feel for you jenjen... did DH flip?
good idea about calling the insurance they may help.
check your insurance policy - my mum & dad's basement flooded a few years ago - hot water tank bust - and after me doing 3 or 4 days of what you've just done, they come home and say "Oh, why didn't you call the insurance people??" yurns out they have companies that some in, dry you out with huge air blowers, guaranteed no musty smell, and insurance will pay to have ceiling/floors fixed within reason of course.
Anay, hope that helps !!!!!
I can't imagine; you poor thing!
Hope it cleans up ok.........
sweetie
:(
Hope you have a better day today! :)
