Low Flush Toilets

I'm new to this form and hope you can help. We are looking to replace our toilet with a low flush one, due to our being on a well system. I have looked into the dual flush Caroma toilets from Australia and I am quite impressed. They have a 4" trap versus the nomal 21/2" one. I can get one here in Northern Ont. for $450. Does anyone have any experience with this type of toilet or any other brands of low flush toilets. Your help is appreciated.

Would you mind telling me approximately what you were charged for your Caravelle and where you purchased it? They seem to be very popular in the states and I'm seriously considering getting one. They don't seem to be very popular here in Canada yet. Thank you for your help.

Hi,
We bought one of the dual flush Caravelle 2000 toilets from Caroma a few months ago. We're impressed enough to consider replacing the toilet in the guest bathroom with one. We had a 1950s model 20-gallon behemoth before this, and it's pretty amazing to see how much water we actually save - the other one used to run forever, but it only takes a second to fill up 3 or 6 L.

They're well worth the investment.

*Edited to add:
Also, the larger trap and gravity system (or whatever it is) works really well - it's not a multiple-flusher like some low-flow toilets are.

...and he's not a big fan of low flush toilets because you often have to flush more times and therefore not actually saving water. However, he did say if you want to go that route, then buying one with the larger trap (4" as you suggested) is definitely better.
