A few years back I decided I liked the tall spikes of flowers all three of these have, so I decided I was going to fill in all my garden gaps with them. I started these red Morello Cherry Lupins and some black Hollyhocks from seed, and I saved seeds from 3 Delphiniums purchased so I could have more of those too.
Only the red lupin is in full bloom, but I got what I wanted! In fact, I could thin out the delphs and add a few to the back yard. I think I'll save some of the lupin seeds and set some out in the back too. The Hollyhocks I started out with in the back don't get enough sun, so the ones pictured here are from seed heads I scattered on a bare spot in a front border. It's hotter and dryer in the front, so I'm hoping I'll have less of the orange rust they got in the back.

I couldn't believe these beautiful garden pics are from this yr until I noticed your location.......heat makes flowers grow and that is something we haven't had too much of here in Northern Ontario...Your garden is very colourful ,,,,,especially the lupins. My perennials are just starting to bud. :)
I first looked at these and wondered, where is this?? And then of course I saw, west coast. We are still waiting for the leaves to be fully out on the trees and my hollyhocks are merely a suggestion in the soil.
Beautiful colour, you are so lucky!!!
:hairpull: The whole time I'm reading and seeing those pictures I'm thinking 'please tell me those are pictures from last year' because the plants here now are still only just coming into leaf. I'm so jealous.
Those lupins are gorgeous. Nice to have big spikes of colour.
Looks Great. I love the colour. It almost looks like summer (at least spring).
