Hi, I'm new to these forums but I'm sure to be around a lot in the coming months. We are purchasing our first home. Our plan is to buy mostly new furniture since most of what we have has been handed down to us over the years. We have 2 young kids but will have a finished basement which will act as a family room so we would like the main floor of our home to be modern & sophisticated.
The problem I am having is choosing the layout and what size furniture (and how much) we should be putting in the living area. We will not be putting a table in the livingroom/dining room - we only want one in the kitchen.
Here is a link to the picture of the plans for the main floor.

Also, should we be painting the kitchen & living room all the same colour or should we be going with different colours? An accent wall?
Thanks!

OMG thank you!! I LOVE option 3! I never thought of anything like that but that would give us optimum seating space and the room would look stylish at the same time.
:)
Option #1
What a great space you have. So many options. I would create 2 seating areas. One is a sectional or 2 love seats and 1 or 2 chair(s) that is something different than the sofas. The tv would be on one of the two walls. The tv can be on the other wall, just flip the sectional. As in option #1, have a conversation area close to the kitchen with 2 chairs and table in between. I have desk and chair between the sofa and the dining room. In option #2, I put a desk and a chair close to the kitchen. Flipped the sectional and have a sofa table behind the sofa with a spot for a couple of lamp. Might have to try and install floor plugs or put an area rug down with an extention cord running under the rug to the lamps. You can get extension cords that are flat like a ribbon so there would be no lump under the rug.
Option #2
Option #3
this 3rd option is with 2 loveseats and 2 chairs. The square with the pattern in the middle of the living room is an area rug. It should be large enough to fit under the legs of all the furniture.
