besides the fact that this show would be a perfect one for me to be on. Did anyone watch it? i caught it for the first time tonight. It wasnt too bad....not loaded with drama, whining or copying anothers design.....i found the designer did take time out to explain things, such as styles and they did show some DIY projects. I have to give the homeowner credit...she really tried, even with her plastic lids and plastic cups. Overall it wasnt bad, better than some that have been on lately. I will be able to judge better when i see more of them....certainly not the excitement that Justin and Colin can give you... :D

Who is it that does like these fake dramas since they seem to keep making them? They aren't in my crowd so I have yet to ever come across anyone. I just have no idea who their target is.
I agree, I am not inspired to hire the designers they show. They do look like incompetents when it comes to project management. It actually surprises me that anyone would allow themselves to be shown that way. We've seen a few of them walk off in frustration, not have any idea of where their workers or supplies are, having arguements, ignoring the client's wishes, etc. and so on. Nope, I'd be more inclined to hire someone who I hadn't seen that happen with. It does't inspire confidence.
I've always wondered what happened to Hildi's business after her appearing on Trading Spaces. I mean after seeing hay, flowers, cardboard, and other wild and wonderful things hit the walls, who would want her in their home on their own dime?
I do agree about Simone and Cicconi (I think I've spelled that wrong) - they really do lack personality. On the other hand, I liked the fact that there wasn't a lot of fake drama.
It seems as if none of us like the fake drama (or what seems to be fake drama). In some cases, it's just really poor project management. And I don't understand why someone would highlight that on a show. It certainly wouldn't make me want to hire them. I'm an IT consultant and I work on projects all the time. We usually try to hide our screwups from our clients, not publicize them!
I'd like to see Ugly Betty. I think I couldn't fit it into my PVR schedule. As I said, I watch way too much TV.
Smith has been cancelled.
Back to Design Interns, when I say emotion.. I dont mean I want the 2 of them crying all over each other. The two of them have no chemistry together, they are bland and seem to have the same opinion on all the potential interns and everything else. That is fine for business but does not make interesting TV.
Maybe one of them is afraid of being labelled with the 'B' word.
For me, Design Interns wouldn't work if it was emotional. It's a job interview afterall and I have yet to see much need for emotion in such a situation. Meanwhile some other shows have more emotion than is necessary. I'm thinking of things like Restaurant Makeover and the like. I'm so tired of the way they make such a big deal out of screwing up. It's usually a screw up plain and simple or some sort of personality conflict which I have zero patience with when it comes to alleged professionals (my definition being if someone is behaving professionally, that type of thing doesn't come into it as often as some programs show).
Ugly Betty is kind of campy so far. When I watched it for some reason I was reminded of the original Batman series as it's kind of cartoony. The evil villan, face covered, in the dark with her minions all portrayed as having the worst of characteristics. Meanwhile the good guys are the worker bees in the basement and the boss is a charming prince stuck in a bad situation who requires saving by Betty who wears her version of a cape and is all good.
On the drama side, so far I like Shark but didn't take to Smith. I've given up on all the shows that make me watch every week just to follow the story like Desperate Housewives, Prison Break, and such. meanwhile, as a contradiction I love Coronation Street which I have to watch every night just so I don't miss anything, so go figure my logic there.
I managed to catch H&H and thought it was okay. It's problem is the schedule and not being on more than once. I'm so used to shows being on a couple of times or a couple of channels that having to catch something that's on at a time I don't have the TV on is just not happening.
I sure wish they'd make new shows for some of the older series like Great Taste No Money, Jon Eakes, and others that never painted wall paper, had hassles with anyone, and just imparted some really useful info. Sheesh I still miss the Furniture Guys.
I saw Design Interns last week. I didnt like it. I found both the Oni-One ladies to be too cold. Neither had any real emotion. Way too serious.
I'll give it another shot this week.
The only new show I've seen is Friday Night Lights. Ugh. Didn't like it at all. And I was so excited that Kyle Chandler is back on TV.... but I just can't handle the football and teen drama of it. Well, I think they're supposed to be teens.
Has anyone watched Ugly Betty?? I keep forgetting to watch it -- it must be on at the same time as Deal or No Deal :D
Oops. forgot to say -- I saw Take Over my Makeover. It wasn't too bad. I actually liked the colours in the original room, but the design didn't work. The new room was nice.
I wasn't crazy about Takeover my Makeover - I thought it seemed pretty typical of a lot of the shows out there.
Oddly enough, I kind of enjoyed Design Interns (or whatever the Cecconi / Simone show is called) - I don't like their style at all, but I found the show kind of interesting. I also liked Property Virgins, even though it's obviously scripted - maybe because I live in Toronto and it's a Toronto based show. I really liked Relocation, Relocation - I think the 2 Brits on that show actually seem to give more info and it doesn't seem scripted. I also liked Suzanne Dimma's new show - I really like her. I also enjoy the show on Friday nights where the Brits look for homes abroad - I've realized I can only afford to live in Thailand and maybe Mexico!
I tried to watch H&H TV again - I really don't like Linda as a host. She's so stilted.
For 'regular' TV (not home stuff), I recorded about 3 weeks worth of shows - I was away on vacation for a week, then in Montreal, so we've spent the weekend watching them. I liked Jericho - I think I'm always intrigued by those post-Apocalyptic type shows. I also liked Six Degrees, probably the best. Didn't like Shark - watched the first episode and couldn't get through the second. I missed getting The Nine, which started this week - it's getting good reviews. Disappointed in Prison Break this year - NONE of those guys are sympathetic characters now. I've recorded Dexter on TMN - haven't seen it yet. I've got Smith recorded, but since it's already been cancelled, there doesn't seem much point in watching it. I also really like Project Runway - I really got into the last season during reruns this summer.
At times, I feel like there are just too many shows out there! I watch WAY too much TV.
