Anyone have suggestions on what I can do to this mantle to make it more of a focal point? There are two windows on each side and I am wonderingif I put window covering on them if that would be enough(looking for suggestions on that also) The windows are about 3 X 5. I have a ton more questions but will start off simple.

Here's what it looks like with an area rug...
that mock up with the gold mirror on the accent wall is a good idea - it's so dark and with the light walls you lose the chairs up against the dark wall. How is the lighting in the room day/night? I think your windows will need to be dressed now that you have gone with such a light colour. BB Bargoons has some great ready made silk drapes and I am still fond of those RH ones in the red and brown like your room.
Very cool room....I like it a lot!
Here's a drape mock-up. I also added in a few decor items for fun.
I think that a nice area rug, as someone mentioned, would tie everything in beautifully but I didn't have time to add one in right now.
I wanted to see what the walls would look like all the same colour so I included that in too.
Your room looks really put together now. Incredible how a room can be changed with paint. It was very nice before but not it is great!!

abc,
think the mockup for drapes will help you decide...sorry can't do it....
but, I did want to say.....amazing job.
it looks so cozy and hip..........I can see why you love it.
The eventual installation of hardwood will only add to it's great feeling...and then you can have fun picking an area rug......
again, great job
Feel weird saying so...since your room looks like my mock up did (even with my colour suggestion..ha) but, I think it looks really good... drapes are not my thing as I like the room without them ...I get bugged about this all the time from certain people on here cuz I put off using drapes with my shutters....so I'll let them guide you..... Awesome Job
I love the accent wall and the new paint. For drapes I would go chocolate if it was me.
We painted the rest of the room yesterday BM Monroe Bisque AKA cat toy, I like it glad I did not go the the other colour. Now for Window coverings? Should they be the colour of the wall, that wall is 16 feet. Should they be the dark brown? Or a combo? I saw some mock ups with drapes the other day, can some do the same with these. Thanks
Yes it was originally about the mantle but once I finish painting the other walls and the drapes up the mantle will be complete. It was kind of a round about way of getting there! And the other colour will be close to Decoguy suggestion.
Does anyone know where to get the drapes that where posted earlier???
is that a technical term? Will it be in BM's new forecast colours for 2006? Cat Triangle Thingee, sounds like a fab colour.
LMAO
My suggestion for the other walls?? see that triangle thing by the cat...I think its a cat toy.... thats the colour I would go, something close to the carpet colour but maybe one shade darker....but thats just me
there. What are you suggesting as the colours on the other walls? DBD's mockup looks orange on my screen. I'm guessing that's NOT your suggestion.... darn computer though I would rather get those Restoration Hardware drapes in another thread than upgrade my monitor!

Jelli, really good question and I hope my opinion didnt start to get lost. I originally was thinking of leaving the fireplace the white it already is and by changing the colour of the walls it would make the fireplace stand out. If you look at DBD's picture a few posts up you can see that the fireplace now really does make an impact.... just went a different direction
I thought your original question was about how you could make the mantle pop? Why are you creating an accent wall on the one beside the mantle? Won't that make the fireplace seem less important?
JMHO
I think it loos GREAT !!! but then again, I'm a little biased :)
Congratulations, love the wall......a big step forward for sure. Keep us informed as you progress.
regards,
sweetie
So this part is done and at first I did not like it, NOW LOVE IT. The stuff and pictures will be changed up. I did re-evaluate the colour choice for the other wall. I agree with Decroguy needs to be more netural. My husband wants to run some wires before we finish painting the room. Than we put up the crown molding and once ethe baby is steady on his feet we change to hardwood. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions I would never have tried this :) Now we can move on to the kitchen I will post more pitures. My husband reaaly wants me back at work :)
ok, you nailed the back wall...perfect brown but I think and its just my opinion that the HC 41 is a bit too caramel. I dont have any chips here at work but was thinking something lighter like Monroe Bisque, I think it might be HC26, I dont know how well it goes but I know its a lighter more neutral colour. but for sure paint that back wall out this weekend :)
Would this help? Of course it's approximate but looks fairly close to the colours of your samples on my monitor although I think they are reading a little darker on the side walls in particular.
ooops...lol...ok...now that i looked at that last pic you posted...i think you on the right track
I was planning on painting the back wall behind the sofa the dark colour and the other two walls the other colour.
my vote is for the darker of the two...Branchport brown
I purchased samples of these two colour for the room. The dark is Branchport brown. HC72, lighter Richmond gold HC41. What do you guys think?? I want to paint this weekend
of a dark wall, but I think I would like to see the dark wall the one with the fireplace because you have the white mantle and the white trim windows that will give it lots of contrast. KarenM used silver mink by Pratt and lambert for her other walls.
do your room like that, oh gosh its going to be gorgeous...love it

:) This is exactly what I needed, I am going to do it. This is alot like our room it is perfect :)
ABC.....some of our members have something similar, I really hope they dont mind me posting these, but KarenM has an awesome house and also did an accent wall in a deep brown, this is exactly the pic I was looking for to direct you to for inspration. karen, this is my fav room of your btw.
ABC, the paint colour for the accent wall is Night Horizon by Benjamin Moore.

Right now it is builders beige, not the typical white a little darker.
What about painting all the walls in that room a more contrasting tone (at least two steps deeper) and then adding window coverings in a similar tone to the wall colour. The firelace place would pop of the wall if it is white and everything else contrasts with it.
What is your paint colour currently?
I like Mink and its a big room so being dark is ok. Here is a pic of forum member BlueDenims bathroom. The vanity is done in Mink, I think it look awesome against lighter colours. Remember that you will need to add something clean and light to that wall. If you remember the mock up I did, a picture that light would look amazing. Also, if you want a little drama you could adda BIG tree (lots of leafy green branches) in one of the corners with some uplighting...would look so good
