OK

This mallow will even reseed itslef here in zone2a!
mallows. They're so pretty. And I don't have any yet!
these are some of the seeds.
I am going down top to bottom today!
which mail order do you prefer for perennials ?
I was thinking hostas and other part shade plants.
Also Lady's Mantle. Heucheras.
for the offer. I love Datura and had some that I got from Hole's in Edmonton by mailorder long ago -- I love their scent! Alas, I don't "do" seeds -- they just don't come up for me properly - they damp off or get all spindly on me. I am one of those *instant gratification* types and I go for perennials and already-grown annuals. Those I can work with for the most part.
Yes I thought later that they had reseeded from last year.
As I am sure in this zone it is not a perennial either. I will gather seeds for next year. Thanks for all info.
I have now datura Angels Trumpet that reseeds and hemilia patens, the Firebush,/Hummingbird bush, now I can add Mallow. If you would like any of these seeds for your garden I would be pleased to share. I can give my email to get your address. I lived in Ottawa many years ago.
like a photo of Lavatera cachemiriana in my book - same petal configuration and look. For that one it says it is native to Kashmir, India: "Annual or short-lived, woody-based, semi-evergreen perennial, with rounded to heart-shaped, palmately 3-5-lobed, blunt-toothed leaves,...Racemes of many open funnel-shaped, silky-textured, clear rose-pink flowers, to 3 in. across, are borne in summer." and it says it is Zone 8-10.
I would say you either have a microclimate that is milder than your zone 5 would indicate (can happen, depending on where you are), or these self-seeded from ones that were there last year, and what you are seeing is actually the annual plant. You might want to collect the seeds this fall and keep them to start a bunch in the spring, so you can be sure to get more. They look so nice!
pic
It is too dark out to take another pic today. But the leaves are maple leaf shape and pistil is large pale yellow. Blossoms have 5 petals and are a see -threw pink-mauve. Tomorrow I will take a close-up pic for you. Most everything I have read on the Net says in zone 5 it is an annual but it has come back from last year. The wild variety have round leaves and are invasive.
looks like it might be Lavatera (Mallow), but I am not sure. Can you do a larger pic of the flowers and leaves? on Lavatera, the leaves are kind of like maple leaves, and the flowers are different colours but generally mauve/pink and they have sort of thin petals and a big fuzzy yellow central pistil.
