MBR: Do I dare

itsjustme's picture

post a pic of my MBR and what it looks like as of yesterday?!
Be warned it could be scary. Rating of OMG :D

Yesterday the old plaster wall came down, and now to build it up again and make it beautiful. Thankfully the ceiling is finished, I don't want to plaster and sand another ceiling again in a long time!

And here is my inspiration pic. I have this bedding.

We are putting up crown moulding and obviously new window frames.

I can either postion the bed by the sloping ceiling as in the pic, or between the two windows.
To the right of the windows, along that far wall is a row of built in cupboards.

Any recommendations and ideas eagerly accepted.

And any clue what BLUE to use on the walls! yip here we go again :D I am looking the palest of palest icy blues. Does this exist?

A nap! No friggin way will that happen here! Not with two rascals running around :D It will just be an excuse to jump on the bed. But thanks for the compliment, I definitely can see myself taking some 'time-out' in there:D

yip, great minds. I love these drapes, they are so thick. I looked at tons of white drapes and most of them where semi-transparent, I need privacy, or the standard length, and I need longer. And not a bad price, actually, considering there are 2 panels in a pack.

wow, a standing ovation, thanks!
I think I am getting it pretty close to my inspiration pic.

I got these drapes. Thick, heavy and white and love the silver gromets (hope gromets are still in style?). I have 4 of them so they won't open as much as in the pic, but bunch up more.
I had this chocolate throw in my hands, but had to resist. Do you think I should go back for it? And if I do, do I get a twin size one which is $55, or the queen which is $75, to go on our king size bed?
I have a beautiful modern ceiling light that is silver and white. The blades are silver on one side and white on the other, so I can choose which looks best.
We are busy with the leather headboard, and trying to make up our minds about the carpeting.

Sico paint is great. I've only used the Cashmere line, but I would guess that all the finishes are similar in terms of paint consistency and how they roll onto the wall.

I'm planning to colour-match a Behr gray in Sico cashmere for the bedroom. Although I do like Behr paint -- but I prefer Sico Cashmere!!

yeah, my eyes popped when I saw how BM prices have gone up!
I have used BM to repaint half the house, but once I saw this years prices, and ran away. I tried Beauti-tone which was on sale for $26, and was happy with it. I still use BM colours, but tried Sico, and now I am their newest fan :D

Good to know....I am spending around $46 bucks a gallon for BM's collection series..............thanks for the information....................... :D

I got my Sico at the local hardwars store nearby. I have used CIL, and found Sico much thicker and it is 100% acrylic. Dh looked at the technical information of BM, Sico and Beauti-tone and compared the spread rate, film thickness and viscosity. Sico came up tops as it has 5% more in viscosity and cheaper than BM. It is more expensive than Beauti-tone (but Beauti-tone wasn't 100% acrylic for that price range). :D

I used Sico in my Master bath and bedroom and the painter had never used it before and he said it was great. We have new owners at our Rona and they are expanding and have jsut put in a huge Sico section so I must go and see their colors.

i take the BM or whatever color i want to walmart and have them color match, they sell CIL and thier own brand which is all made by Glidden...that is what i used in the living room and it was an exact match....only 18.99 a gallon and that is what we had in our hallway and living room before these colors and it stood up well to the abuse this house takes :)

Where do you buy Sico paint?........I used Cil paint from CT and liked it too.......even though I have always used BM.....I am finding that other paints have come a long way and now are becoming comparable to BM..............looking forward to seeing your finished room............. :D

I love the Sico paint. And much better than BM and cheaper! $35 for a gallon. It is so thick, that one coat looked enough, although I did do another coat just for good measure. I used Platinum as I have little kiddies with sticky hands, lol
I used the BM sample to test the colour and then got it mixed at Sico. :D

The room will be cleaned up in due time. Still have some painting to do, like around the cupboards and the molding! Hang in there, won't be long. I can't bear any more sleepness nights lying on a mattress on the floor any more! :D

omg, I am finally finished painting. I started on Friday with the ceiling and it took me the whole of Sunday to do one coat on the walls! And may I say the colour is gorgeous! I still have trim and molding to paint, blah.

Now to go shopping! My to do list: Drapes, carpets, storage bench/ottoman for foot of bed, soft shaggy rug, shutter doors, silver side table lamps, ceiling light, armoire, fluffy cushions for bed, oh, make a headboard, frame some pictures to hang up, iron the bedding (!) and finally mooove back in!

No pics yet, as the room still has ladders, upturned bed and tools lying around! :D

I can't see the attachment. Could you repost it? Thanks.

I am going to BM now to get samples of the Whirpool and Quiet Moments (similar to P&L Nickel). I'll check out Iceberg and Artic Gray too. Gees all these cold names!! brrrr :D

I used BM's Iceberg in my bathroom. It almost looked white going on but is really nice after 2 coats. I put it on the ceiling too - I've only ever had white ceilings and I was nervous about that, but it looks great!

What about BM Whirlpool CC-910? This is pretty close to Bright Star.
Am I solving my own design dilemmas?!

ok, found a P&L, but the nickel is too dark. thanks anyway. :D

itsjustme's picture

I haven't looked at P&L, because I don't know where to find them in my area.

I had a look at my F&B, nothing there either. Too dark.

I stuck the Bright Star Beauti-tone chip on my wall, and it just might work. It isn't green at all on the wall, more silver, and light enough. It is a pity they don't do sample bottles. Quite a risk to buy the 2 gallons.

Have you checked out the P&L Nickel? It's been mentioned around here a few times in the past.

I used it (or a match to it in another paint) a few months ago to try and neutralize my bedroom (for selling). In that south room it was a very light blue that was very icy. I actually changed it to brown for selling when the stager said it was too much like an igloo in that room. the ceiling in there is still that blue and next to the brown it reads as almost a white.

Meanwhile, I used the same paint, same can, came colour in my north facing bathroom to see what it was like and it looked more like a denim blue.

So, it was quite different in the two lights, but it is a nice soft blue in general. It also goes to show you really need to see a colour in the light it will be in to know how it will read.
