I rechecked the rose and it is a David Austin called " Pat Austin ".
Sorry for the confusion. It is descibed as apricot-orange and copper depending where you look for info. I also have a "Jude the Obscure", yellow with apricot. and a white called Winchester Cathedral. All repeat bloomers and very fragrant ones. All bush/shrub variety.

I want to buy some tomorrow. What kind do you find do well in zone 5 ?
Do you put blood meal around the bulbs to prevent squirrels, we have lots! Most bulbs will be in the full sun, but some in part shade. Do you have any suggestions Molly for kinds to plant. Do you buy from a nursery or Home Depot, Rona etc. ? Thanks.
I read you need to poke holes in the top of the cones to prevent moisture build up on the canes inside.

I did a lot of moving plants around today also.Planted spring bulbs, potted up some plants to overwinter in the house, will keep them in greenhouse untill it gets colder.Got lots done today.Just hope this weather stays for a while longer. What I read about your roses they are very hardy .I also read about using alfalfa pellets, they say it is really good to use, haven't used them yet but am planning on it next year.

I don't have the Margareta one, it is Pat Austin. (my error in the name) I planted them new last May so I don't know how they will winter. They are up against a west facing fence and I plan to earth them up, then leaves and then the styro cap. I moved 2 today to the fence and moved a bleeding heart to more shade, and added 2 new white astilbes, moved 4 day lillies to more sun. I mulched all the plants I moved with new stuff. The lasagna bed is almost done. Just a few more inches of new soil to built it up more. I read that alfalfa pellets (from pet store) add lots of nutrients, so I will buy some and throw them around and add the soil. Great weekend for gardening.
