More suggestions

Okay I am back and have some things I want to bring up.

It sure would be nice to have a delete key for the poster especially given how often the double posts happen. Given the delay it takes to get a post up it's kind of natural to hit 'submit' again but there is no way to fix it after.

Why do we have to keep subscribing to topics? It's a couple of extra steps that people like me who hate extra steps don't appreciate. I would rather that any topic I post in being automatically subscribed with the option to unsubscribe if I wish. The number of times I would use the unsubscribe is significantly less than the ones I would subscribe (given if I responded I probably am very interested in other responses or I wouldn't even have bothered) so that just saves me all those extra steps.

The emicons are incredibly dull. Could we have some like the old ones back? I mean the hair pull, the excited one running around, the barfer, anything with more expression than the few dull options we currently have.

Can the login remain active? Every time I come, even if I don't log out, I have to log in again and I call that nerve wracking after the previous months of screw ups with the log in. Before I could just come and go as I pleased but this extra step again puts me off. I hate these extra steps and I don't consider them user friendly or serving the goal of (hopefully) encouraging all those who had trouble getting in to come back. It's just all so convoluded in a place that should offer easy access especially to members.

Twice today I have been here and both times I had to login.  Guess change isn't working?

Still having to log in every time Mike.

I've also noticed I am getting notices in my email for posts I make in any thread I've subscribed I don't need to be notified of my own posts and that wasn't something that used to happen at all when subscribed before. Can that be fixed?

Stay logged in

Later today, we'll be making the changes so users won't get logged out overnight - please let me know if you have any issues.

The forum keeps track of what posts you've already read, and puts an icon or the word 'new' next to the subject. "Mark as read" is to clear these marks, even if you don't read the posts.

It's similar to the 'mark as read' in you email program.

Could you explain exactly what 'subscribe to' is all about.  My take on it is that if you are subscribed to that thread, somehow and somewhere any further responses to that particular thread will come directly to you. (How and where?)  Is this the idea?

While we are at it, what is "Mark as Read" all about too?  Is this that once you have read a thread, it will not show up unless there is new content?

Yes Mike, I would rather be automatically subscribed to a thread as soon as I comment. Having to remember to subscribe and then to have to confirm that is what I want to do is one of those times I regard as just excess steps. Either a quick 'subscribe' button (with no confirmation) or it done automatically with the option to unsubscribe would be more to my taste.

If memory serves previously we had the option in our profile area to designate whether we wanted to be automatically subscribed or not. That would seem to be a good step that would allow each of us to choose how we like to operate vs having to do it every time we post in a new thread. Just an option for you.

As for the emoticons I vote for the hair pull for sure. It just suits so many situations so perfectly. Personally I prefer the ones that aren't animated if for no other reason than they don't throw off spacing like the animated sometimes do. I don't know how you get people to vote on particular ones unless you have a way to include all in the emoticon area of a thread and ask people to actually click the ones they like in their response so you can see a visual list of them basically. So posts in response might look something like this as people picked the ones they liked.

Hi, PearlG and DBD. We're looking in to your concerns and suggestions. I'll be back with more specifics when I can, but for now, know that we're looking into the doubleposting/delete functionality.

I'd like to make sure I'm understanding the subscribe issue - you're fine with the subscribe, but would just like it to automatically subscribe you to the thread, as soon as you comment?

PearlG, we'll look into the search results - can you give me the URL of the page you described?

Our designer is swamped at the moment with Trends, but we'll get you some addons to the emoticons - but we want to make sure we please as general an audience as possible, so if you have any suggestions on voting for new icons, or suggesting new ones, etc. please let us know.

On logging out, I'm afraid that there's always a security risk to keeping everybody logged in all the time, but we'll take a look at how to meet you halfway on this if at all possible.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Regards,
Mike
