Morning Glory

My morning glory finally had a decent number of flowers today -- seven in total :) Too bad the blooms last less than a day.... but through the magic of photography, they can last a whole lot longer!! ;)

Hello, Smoodgie. My purple morning glory vines are looking sad also, yellowing leaves, drying up and getting thinner. Kind of sad when they looked wonderful last week. Yes, I'm hoping also that you'll have some seeds to share.

Thanks for getting back to me so soon.

Yes morning glories will reseed and are easy to grow from seed. You can collect the seeds now and keep over the winter. Then in spring nick the hard shell on the seed with a knife, lay on damp paper towel and they will sprout ready to plant outside. You can pot up then in the house or plant oitside when the ground is warm.

Dawn, my morning glory is in a planter. You can plant them directly into the ground as well, but I they they re-seed themselves. If you want a big batch of morning glories, then that's fine -- if not, maybe it's best to keep them in planters. Although even in a planter, they send shoots out everywhere. Mine is making its way through the juniper bush and towards the front door -- it's almost like an evil being in a horror movie or something!! ;)

The colour is just stunning. Is it in the ground, or in a planter? I've wanted to plant some for years, but I'm wondering how they are with spreading.

My morning glory is looking rather sad and pathetic at the moment :( It's still flowering, but the leaves are all turning yellow or dying or falling off :( I hope the plant will produce some seeds before it buys the farm. I'll let you know if I end up with any seeds.

I was told that you can propagate a morning glory from the tuber root, and possibly from cuttings. I just bought this plant in July, so I haven't tried propagating it yet. We'll see what happens....

Hi, Smoodgie. As others have commented, you do take great pics! I have the purple and purple-pink morning glories, but this lovely blue that you have is real eye candy! Where did you get the seed for it, or do you have any seed you'd be willing to swap, sell or give away. I'm probably not in the right forum for this, but I wanted to ask before I forgot.

This goes for anyone else who may have seeds of this lovely blue morning glory. I'm willing to swap seeds of something else if I have it or can get it, or buy them from you. Thanks.

newfie, that's so kind of you to say!! I've really been enjoying taking pictures of our flower garden this summer :) I think I'm going to put together a collection of some of my favourite pics and group them together somewhere in the house (maybe on the big, empty dining room wall!!)

Lisi, I know what you mean..... the colour of these flowers is just so amazing!! I hope I'll be able to propogate the plant and grow more just like it next summer -- fingers crossed!!

I can't decide what i am more amazed at - your flowers or your photography.. You seem to capture the deepness of the color & the raindrops or dew or what ever - stunning!
