I've just bought a cool poster that I want to mount onto a board (then build a frame around the board), but I am wondering what the best adhesive would be. Is wall paper paste lumpy? Will spray adhesive be strong enough if I weigh it down with another board? This will be a one shot deal and it was expensive so have to make sure whatever I use works. Any experience out there? Thanks

If you really want the poster right, take it to a place that will mount it properly (they can attach it to any number of surfaces). Normally they use a dry mount paper and press. Wallpaper paste (or any other paste for that matter) is too wet and will ripple the paper or could actually eventually eat through it (wallpaper is very thick so that doesn't happen). Spray adhesive is fine but can be really tricky to get on evenly (and you have to use the right one... see an art supply store) or you can also have problems in getting it even. Some of them also give you one chance only, no mistakes so you have to know what you are doing (or on the other side of it, don't stay stuck).
Note, even if you put the thing under glass it should be properly mounted or it can just look tooo loose and ripply.
Hi Comoxpainter... definitely NOT wallpaper paste. The dampness can ruin your poster.
I had a print/poster that I took to a framer (just one of those places in the mall... not a high quality "art" framing place)... he adhered the print to a foamcore backing then framed it for me. It was perfect. If I were you, and if this poster is really special to you (i.e., you don't want to ruin it), I'd take it to a framer and have him/her adhere it for you. You don't have to have them frame it... just stick it to foamcore.
If you definitely don't want to do this, then spray adhesive is your next best thing.
Good luck
Yes, I suppose the simpliest thing to do would be to frame it the old customary way, but I bought a picture last year that is done in this method. No glass. But this method is very effective (I'd send a picture if I knew how) and I'd like to duplicate it. My only indecision is with the mounting. Spray adhesive or maybe wallpaper paste seem to be the only options that come to mind. Thanks for your reply
Why do you want to glue it onto something would it not be better to just back it with foamcore or heavy cardboard then frame like a picture.
