Smoodgie, your room is absolutely gorgeus, you definetely have a great talent for designing. Some people are just born with it. Very pic perfect and magazine front cover worthy. ;-))
wow smoodgie that's a beautiful room. great job!! i'm jealous lol
I love your living room it is beautiful. that chandler looks familiar I've seen it somewhere before. I think Sarah Richardson put it up in one of her shows. :clapping:
Thanks for the compliments :)
fillagirl, the chair rail was already in the living room, but we added the wainscoting. It was created with strips of MDF that were attached to the wall with adhesive and nails. We added the same wainscoting to the dining room as well.
Sorry I'm late with these answers, but hopefully they'll be helpful....
Dolly, the mirrored tables are from Bombay.
afraidofcolour, the artwork in the frames are pictures I took on our trip to Belgium & Luxembourg. I just printed them out on regular paper on our printer at home. They're colour, but they have a sort of blac & white look to them.
Absolutely beautiful! I love every single detail from the gorgeous barrel chandelier to the zebra chaise to the simplicity of your sofa to the strong presentation of artwork! Really GREAT work! :clapping:
Brilliant!! IT looks so beautiful Smoogie you did such a wonderful job. You have impeccable taste. I think we'll all be coming to you when we need help with our own home design. Awesome!
Nixx
HI Smoodgie, I went back to this thread because I absolutely love your room....I'm looking at your wainscotting - did you already have this or did you install it?
thanks for sharing this...love it.
Fillagirl
Yours is a room I love. All of your colours and accessories are very much like I have used in my home. You have put everything together beautifully. I love your Mirrored tables. Do you mind if I ask where you purchased them?
I have seen Silva on T V many times and have always admired his work. I was not aware that we could buy directly from him. I have made note of his website and will keep it in mind for any new furniture purchses I will make.
Thanks you for showing us your beautiful room.
Your living room is beautiful! I especially love your artwork. Did I read in an earlier thread that you created them yourself? Are they black and white photographs? On screen it looks like those great architectural drawings that you see around now.
Great job!
I love your room.. The ceiling lights give more attraction and color to your room. Fantastic! :applaud:
Hehehehe!!! Yep, I AM a sneak!!! :D
Dandelion, the sofa and chairs are from The Bay. They're both made by Silva -- although The Bay doesn't carry the chair (at least the store here doesn't). But I asked if I could special-order it, and they said yes :) Here are the links:

Again, thanks for all the positive feedback :) I have to say, it's a really good feeling to actually get a room completely done. And the fact that it's worked out so well is an extra bonus!! :D
That's triple WOW, Smoodgie. I always told you that you should have been an interior designer and now you actually have shown what a tremendously clever girl you are.
It is all glamourous and so wowsy that I don't know what to say anymore except you've really done a GREAT JOB and congratulations.
Smoodge, what a fantastic room! May I ask at what store you bought the sofa and chairs? I'm looking for a clean-lined sofa just like that. If you could share, that'd be much appreciated. Thanks
WOW!! :applaud: :clapping:
Great job!! You little sneak..keeping the big secret from us all!!! :p
... We found some awesome deals -- like the coffee table..
Naaaa, I thought you simply borrowed it from Murano
Talking seriously - your room looks FAB! And here is nice flow of zebra pattern from the bench to the plate on the coffee tables and up to the striped drapes.
Very thougtfull accessories (this is what I am struggling with right now).
Picture perfect!!
Gorgeous!!!
I love everything about your room...the furniture, curtains, art prints, wainscotting, light fixture....all are simply beautiful and you've done an outstanding job of putting it all together!!
Enjoy your beautiful room :clapping:
Smoodgie, so sophisticated and glamorous. It certainly does belong in a magazine. :applaud:
Flowerpot.
Mel & janet, my big black dog loves to sleep on the new cream couch  If I can have a glam room with dogs, you can have glam rooms with kids!!!!
Arizona, that's a decorative bowl on the table between the chairs. I got it at HomeSense, so it's probably similar to what you saw. It looks like shell, but it's not. I think it's just plain old plastic :o The colours are perfect for the room and I was looking for a bowl with a sort of organic shape, and this one fit the bill!!
sharonh, the coffee table is from HomeSense. It's a Martha Stewart table -- same as the one that Muranogirl bought. The top and the shelf are glass. DeBoers sells the exact same table, but it's a lot more expensive there
LASS, the curtains are a gray, gold, and cream silk. I'll post a pic so you can see them better. I had them made by a fabulous seamstress in Oakville.
janet, yep, I was keeping quiet so I wouldn't accidentally spill the beans!!! I almost did a few times!! I really do enjoy this room -- it's a great place to sit down and read, with all the sunlight that comes through the window. And the sofa is really comfy :)
Zulu, I wanted to add personal touches to the room, which is why I wanted to make my own artwork. And my friend pulled out some of my mom's crystal pieces and displayed them on the glamour chests. I'm so happy she did that -- I probably wouldn't have thought to use them in the room, but they look so nice and sparkly and they have special meaning to me because they were my mom's :)
Whoops, forgot to add the curtain picture.... it's a close-up so you can see the colour and detail.....
Oh Smoodgie,
I love that room. Its looks very sophisticated!
I especially like the art on walls and knowing they are personal photos makes it even better.
You have great ideas and taste.
It is gorgeous!! Great work. I am redoing my family room and am wondering where you got the glass coffee table?
is this why you have been so quiet......you have been busy pulling together this room ;) and keeping it all a secret.............absolutely gorgeous smoodgie....everything is perfect! SO STUNNING!!!!!!!! and i agree its certainly magazine worthy........
im with Mel, i can only dream of a room like this until my kids grow up and move on...........suddenly my living room feels even more like a rec room  :D
ENJOY YOUR NEW ROOM SMOODG
smiles
janetc
Stunningly Gorgeous!!!!
Well Done! :applaud:
Back home and looking at my living room!!!!! Love your colours and style. May I ask what colour are your drapes and did you have them made or ?? Murangirl has similar taste and I love her drapes. but still haven't got up the nerve to start the project of my living room.
Beautiful! Another example of how long it takes to get it just right.
What is that object on the small table inbetween the chairs? I saw something like that at Homesense and couldn't figure out if it was a horn or a shell?
Your coffee table, I think I saw that too. The top wasn't real granite though, it was glass finished to look like granite and it was all peeling off on the back of the one I saw. I suspect this is why we often see things for much less at Homesense as they are knock offs. Not that that is a bad thing, some of us could never afford the real thing.
Anyway, I agree with the others, a gorgeous magazine worthy room. I like how it fills the space without being too cluttered or too empty.
Did you ever show photos of the blue room? I don't remember seeing any.
It's a beaut...........I think you should change your member name to
GLAM GIRL...
:bliss:
Wow, Smoogie, what a nice room. Very well put together. Bravo to you.
smoodgie, that is one impressive room. it definitely has that hollywood glamour feel. a room worthy of a martini ;)
WOWZERS Smoodge!!!!!! It looks absolutely fantabulous!!! Gorgeous, breath-taking, magazine worthy, and everything else everyone else said!!! I think I may print off your pics and whenever I'm feeling fed up with my "kid friendly" furnishings, will look at your pics and imagine its my living room.
Pathetic huh??? LMAO
:p Mel
another home worthy of a magazine spread. wow :)
Wow!! Thanks for all the nice comments!! I'm going to have to do more secret undercover rooms!! ;)
I've been working on this room for close to a year. I painted it the original cobalt blue last April, and hubby installed the wainscoting in May. Then there was the sofa dilemma last summer some of you might remember. When the sofa went back, the room got a fresh new start. A friend of mine who's an interior designer in BC was in town for a week in November and we spent three days together shopping and coming up with a plan :) We found some awesome deals -- like the coffee table. It's $1560 at DeBoers, I got it for $400 at HomeSense.
Another friend of mine who's the queen of accessorizing helped me put on the finishing touches about a month ago :) I was just waiting to get the chandelier hung and the bench recovered before I posted pics.
lacroixl & Inglewood, there's a hugely long story about that chandelier. Short version -- I saw it back in December on the Horchow web site, and after months of searching, I ended up buying it from Bellacor in the US for $300 less than it would have cost me to buy it here.
The art on the walls are pictures from our trip to Belgium. The sofa & chairs are from The Bay. They're made by Silva. The Bay doesn't actually carry the chairs, but they special-ordered them for me. I saved $600 buying them through The Bay instead of through the more trendy store where I originally saw the chair.
lacroixl and jan, funny you should mention that the room is magazine worthy -- my inpsiration was the cover of an issue of Elle Decor :)
Inglewood, I used ICI paint -- La Mesa on the ceiling and a custom mix on the upper walls. To be honest, I painted the walls twice  I picked a colour called Wood Smoke, which is beautiful but totally the wrong gray for the carpet and curtains. The final colour is a combination of ICI Wood Smoke and Valiant Gray, and Debbie Travis Manta Gray.
DBD and Regingirl, I loved the blue and really wanted to make it work, but it just didn't happen. But I WILL have a blue room one of these days!!
sweetpea, I hadn't thought of it looking like an old Hollywood movie. But now that you mention it, I guess it does have a bit of that look and feel. Maybe that comes from the mirrored chests and crystal pieces???
The room looks nothing like I envisioned it originally, but I'm really happy with it -- and now we FINALLY have one completed room in our house!!! :confetti:
