Since you have seen the start I thought I would show you the update of my back yard. Still lots to do, but better than it was. It's also fall here now and my basil got nailed by the cold I think and the tree next door dumped.
there is one as the garden was first planted and then how much it filled in (as of today). The area I filled with rock and some plants. and two more from today.
I'm open to ideas for next year. I still would like to put shutters up and change the shape of the garden, but right now mowing is only on my list.

Your garden looks really nice and will look beautiful once it all fills in.

DBD, yes, mine did have a glaze. I'm not worried about it if it cracks because I do have another one which is copper. I have seen those concrete ones filled with some sort of cacti and that's what I was thinking to do if it eventually breaks down on me. I'll fix it by gluing it together or whatever to hold it in place and use it as a holder for some plants that don't need much watering. Unless somebody else has any other ideas what other purpose it might have.
You must have good nutrients in that soil. I have noticed that when we removed a plum tree and planted a memorial garden in its place, we found that the plants grew twice as fast as my other plants in the rest of the garden.
I did that too, with dahlia tubers. I bought 3 packages on clearance, got one planted in the front late. That one had time to flower, and I love it, so I made a last ditch effort with the other 2 and got them planted out back in a new garden bed that got put on hold over summer. Each of those 2 have a pathetic wee bit of growth in the bag, and although they are doing alright in the ground there will not be time for flowers. Oh well, a slim chance is better than no chance! :) My dahlias do alright in the ground over winter, so I won't be digging them up.
yes some of those plants really got big and will have to be divided next spring already. Pretty amazing considering I did nothing to the soil and forgot even to give them Miracle grow. It must be old garden soil from years ago it is so rich. I'm still hoping it won't get too cold as some of the bulbs that got planted late still haven't had a chance to flower yet and it would be nice to see how they look.
Gee I have never worried about the bird baths. I have two and they have always (at least 10 yars) been left out with water (the birds use them all year). Maybe it's because of our Chinooks they don't crack. Does yours have a glaze on it? I know for sure glazing will crack. Mine are just concrete, plain, no coatings.
It's good you got all your perennials in! I find I tend to move mine a lot, either because the location I chose isn't working out for the plant, or I've changed my mind about where it looks best.
Great job! Now you have all winter to make your plans for spring.
DBD, your garden has improved tremendously.....I can't believe how fast that flower bed filled up.
Are you planning to remove the birdbath for the winter? If not, try placing the top upside down on the stand to avoid getting water freezing in there over the winter because I forgot to do mine like that one winter and I have a small crack in it and one of these days it's going to break on me, hopefully not on my foot :p
I see in the background Ebony is enjoying your hard work :D
