I am so happy to say that i have discovered what the mystery plant growing in our back garden is (see "what is this" post). Thanks to Dreamer for the website referral, a horticulturalist was able to identify it as Rudbeckia laciniata. Now i can wonder no more.......

Junebug...I love such big dramatic plants too...a shame they must go. Black eyed Susans are cheerful and hardy, though, a nice replacement!
Thats too bad that they are in the wrong spot. They are great looking plants. They would be great out here and I will be looking to buy this plant for sure. Thanks for posting the pic.
yes, they have finally begun to bloom BUT...get ready...i chopped them down! YIKES! i know, i know...they were just enourmously tall that they were literally falling over into the patio despite my trying to keep them upright by tying string to the fence as support. i have left a few that are still standing tall but once they are done blooming i am going to yank them all out and replace them with black-eyed susans. they will hopefully be more manageable.
Just curious as to how your plants are.Have they bloomed yet,if so do you have a pic?
solve your mystery! Your pretty yard will look even more fabulous when it is full of those cheerful yellow blooms.
Isn't the internet wonderful?
great to get an ID on the plant. It will have blooms and look like a giant black-eyed susan. Great privacy plant. Thanks Dreamer.
