I have 4 of these popping up in my flower bed. Anyone have a clue what it is, or what it will be when it grows up? It has to come out, no matter what it is, as it doesn't fit here, but is it worth transplanting or should I throw it away? It has dark purple foliage that is starting to turn green. All four of them are just growing longer and longer, no branching out.

Is that the same as varigated basestrife?
Next time you are passing a garden centre, take a leaf in and ask them to identify it for you. If you think you planted it, it may be okay, but if you didn't, it might be a bad weed.
We have purple loosestrife here and it's a baddy. Unfortunately a lot of people think it's pretty so they leave it go unaware that it is a very real issue to the ecology. SAme with some sort of twisty vine that is around here. It has the most lovely pink flowers but if let go will choke everything in it's path.
I had some ardent gardeners next to me at my first house and got a few lessons in why weeds are weeds and they weren't very happy with me until I started being more careful. So now I feel compelled to pass it along.
I think it has little yellow flowers in fall. I think I planted one of these four too! Can't remember why! A bargain plant for 50c or something, lol
I have a patch of this too...and if I'm not mistaken...it'll produce little clusters of dark pink berries...I usually let it grow..because there is only one little patch of it in my entire garden..I've been lead to believe someone actually planted it..and that it isn't a weed...but what the heck do I know??
 Mel
Nope, it isn't milkweed. The leaves are different, and softer and floppy.
Thanks anyway. I wish it was though, then I could think what to do with it!
Keep guessing :D
Milkweed?
Milkweed is a plant that the Monarch Butterfly feeds off of -- (that's all I know about it!!) I think, if you snap a leaf off, and it produces a milky substance, you probably have milkweed!
Then, I guess it's up to you to decide if it's a weed or not! :) You pictures look quite similar to Google images of milkweed, maybe have a look and see what you think.
Good luck!

Sorry, no real help from me but my philosophy is "if i like it it's a plant (and stays); if not, it's a weed (and dies) :)
