Name Game

redheron's picture
redheron

so Red Heron Essentials is about to get it's very own store mascot.. a little kitty cat! Of course, Dave the Cat has stipulated that if he is going to have a cousin who gets to spend time with his mommy, the kitty must be a red head.. why break from tradition.

We're now canvassing for name suggestions.. Scarlett was deemed too obvious (sorry Dreamer!) by some of our staff...

Anyone?

Auntie Aan thoughts?

Yes, you think the THS might want to find good homes for their animals. However they have created criteria which they will not deter from and therefore animals don't get the homes they deserve. I totally agree with you honesty should be maintained. It is too bad the THS doesn't understand this.

RH - I'm glad you could use the photo, after all this you want to make sure they get the right ones!

Your pic has come in SOOOO handy. I just showed the picture of the kitties to my staff so they know which ones to go and get!

I did this - I explained them the nature of my business and that my studio is the home many people would dream to have LOL! No dice! I also explained to them that I am a workaholic and that the company of the cats would be a great stress reducer for me. They didn't care.

Janetc - my janet comment (notice I put in lower case) is in reference to a bad person in my life right now.. I call all people I'm mad at janets! Nothing personal there - I also know some lovely Janets in the world - these I make sure to capitalize their name!!!

Two of my staff are going to go and get the kitties.. so here's keeping our fingers crossed. I'll be sure to give them the cheat sheets on the cats!

Red, I'm wondering if you found out why they don't allow adoptions where the animal will live in a place of business. Did they give you their rationale?

I guess I'm wondering if they've had some complaints, experiences, horror stories that have lead to this policy. Certainly there are any number of pets in businesses (my vet has a couple) who do very well, but maybe they have some other information they are working from that would be helpful to know about.

You see I'm thinking that if you knew their concerns and could address them they may reconsider. Just guessing, but I could see problems with animals escaping onto busy streets (through customers opening doors), being left alone/neglected too long (if shop/business is closed for extended periods such as weekends/holidays), being exposed to dangerous equipment/machinery, or being abandoned if the business finds their customers are allergic. There could also be other concerns but unless you know what they are, you can't show them how you would address them.

I have zero experience with THS (I can only speak of the HS in my city), but I don't see a problem with the person living in a 1 bedroom adopting. There could be some very good reason she qualified and there are any number of dogs (large and small) who live very well in that very situation so I'm not sure that is a fair comparison to make to your situation. It's apples and oranges in my mind.

It's not that I think you wouldn't offer a good home, I just have to wonder if there isn't a good reason for such policies. As an animal lover it makes my blood run cold when I have known someone got a dog or cat from a breeder or the Humane Society by lieing. Everytime I've seen it, the reason was obvious why it shouldn't have happened and there went an innocent animal into a situation that was not a good environment for it.

I can't imagine Toronto doesn't require homes for hundreds of animals on any given day so when they are declining an adoption, logic would say there must be a good reason. I'd much rather have a humane society turn people down when they have reason than hand over animals to anyone who asked just to clear their cages.

So I think before you get upset or involved in lieing, find out what their objections are because they may know something you haven't thought of when it comes to animals living in businesses/offices. All anyone wants is what is good for the pet. I can't imagine they would prevent you from having what you want as long as you can assure them their concerns will be addressed, so I wish you luck but if there is a really good reason for you not to have pets living in your business I hope you consider their validity.

im stunned...i cant believe when normally human societies are begging for people to adopt that they would turn you down...i could understand it, if the cats were left alone forever in a day....that truly is rediculous...in my opinion, what is the difference if someone has cats at home and works all day or the midnight shift..just awful. If you are anything like me, you will have the cat because i would have a friend go in for me, just as you said. Oh yes, what is a janet lol thought i would like to know as that is my name lol...trust me they are not all nasty lol
good luck

The Humane Society is a bunch of pet Nazis!!... "No cat for you!!" This was
DH's response to their treatment of RH. Just like the soup nazi on Seinfeld!

I've heard lots of stories about THS. You'd think they'd be happy to adopt to a good home, whether or not that home is actually a 'home'.

We live quite close to THS, but we adopted from our vet (Bay Cat Hospital). They were so wonderful when we lost our older cat 2 years ago - you know they care.

I have some bad experiences with the THS as well. They just think they are the only ones that know what is good for the animals. You have to make sure everyone in your home is agreeable to having an animal so if you send a staff person back make sure they know that they are single and promise to spend every waking moment with the cats and that they will never let them out of the house and make sure you have the name of the vet they will be seeing. I had to have friends adopt my cat from the THS once too!

Supervisor's office and told her that she was a dispicable human being. That she failed to employ the HUMANE in Humane Society.

I was dismissed.

I hate to be dismissed.

I'm going to send someone else to go and adopt them. I want Lil' Red!

Grrrrr

Styley... the Supervisor is such a janet and that other word which causes us to cringe.

Red i'm so sorry...if anyone deserves those 2 kitty's it's you...i just hope it works when you send your staff to go pick them up...maybe you should wait a day or 2 so they don't clue in....i've heard before that they are really picky about who they let take the animals...but hearing about that doberman...i guess not...did you try the pound in Scarborough...i think it's on Progress Ave...that's where i got Pete....no questions asked...

Is it illegal or something to have your pet/s at work? Like hello, you live, die and breathe work 24/7 Mer... Your studio would be a fabulous home, lots to explore, safe, people... lots of people to get lovin from... Are they daft! and that would be two less mouths for them to feed and care for... Bad! Bad! how inhumane they are! Well, just send someone they don't know back and get them pronto! You must not fail those wee charges...Lil'red sounds like he needs you...

Dh and I were just talking last night that, when a store has a pet, that pet gets more hours of attention then a pet at the house of someone who works!!

Well, good luck with your staff getting them! they deserve a good home, not the THS cage!

Do not donate one red cent to them.

It is the policy of the THS NOT to adopt to any workplace setting.

Meanwhile... they adopted a GIGANTIC DOBERMAN to an unemployed woman who has a one bedroom apartment and 4 cats as I sat and waited for an hour and was then told NO!

I'm sending my staff back to adopt.

Lil' Red was so playful.. he knew that he was about to go home.

I am so MAD I could SPIT!

I guess honesty doesn't pay.

I went back to check and Woofstock is presented June 4 and 5 from 10am to 6pm, according to the Toronto Star article today about "dressing your dog" ie dog couture... Does that mean Kimberly Seldon is going to the dogs? LOL

now a Migraine...

My grama recommended used tea bags on the eyes before bed.. but I don't think this would do anything. The pills they are notta working. I've squeezed that little spot between my thumb and forefinger.. but no luck there either.

I hate the Barometric Pressure swings!

The June 4-5 thing is Kimberley Seldon's Flea Market...

Yours truly was asked by Kim to do "5 minute Consultations" at the Flea Market... which I have graciously accepted.
