Need help with choice of furniture and furniture placement!

I am looking to change my main floor sitting area.  It is painted "Stardust" by Benjamin Moore, and I am looking to keep it the same colour.  The furniture (brown leather couch and loveseat)  that is currently in the room is way too big for the space and will be moved downstairs when we our basement is finished in approximately a month and a half.  The buffet that is below the television will be moved to the dining room.  It will be a blank slate and I am looking to buy some new furniture. What furniture would look good in this room?  The dining room goes right into this living space so I would like it to look open and as big as possible.  There are floor to ceiling windows on the rear wall of the house, which I would rather not block with a sofa.  I would like to keep the television on the wall for when I cook in the kitchen, but I don't want it to be the focal point.  I am looking at this space as mainly a living space for the dog, cats, guests and family to visit. The photos attached show the dining room, which faces the front of the 2 storey house.  It will hold the dining table, buffet (that is currently under the television).  In the sitting area, the only furniture I would like to keep in the laptop desk.  I love brown and blue, but am not opposed to change.I REALLY need your help with what furniture to buy for the space and then placement of the furniture.  The living space is quite small at 11 feet 6 inches along the rear wall of windows.  The wall with the television is 11 feet 2 inches and could extend 4 feet 1 inch, where the wall juts out  in between the living room and dining room.  Sincerely,Tara    living room: view from the kitchenliving room: view from the kitchen

Starting from scratch can be so exciting!

Do any of these sofas interest you?

Also, maybe this gallery, which shows how one room can be given three different layouts depending on your focus, will be helpful:

Using a small-scale sofa and/or armchairs will definitely help. The living room here may be small but still has style!

This would be a great Ask A Designer question for Cameron! Why don't you submit your question at askadesigner [@] with these photos and your contact info?

Any other suggestions?

Hope this helps a bit!
