I need to make this border running along my fence a little more interesting. I haven't hauled out any gardening books for inspiration yet, and I thought I'd ask here.
On the left in the full shot I just dug out a California Lilac that died back, and that corner is filled with waist-high buttercups I am in the process of tearing out. On the other end of the border is a smal shade garden on the side of the house. The area faces west and gets a bit of morning sun coming in from between the house and the neighbour's, then it's in shade until the afternoon when it has a few hours of hot afternoon sun.
So far I only have plans to put a metal arch in the left corner so I can get my clematis to climb over that instead of the adjoining fence. It's the middle portion of the fence I'm wanting to add height to somehow, but I can't go higher than the fence without interference from the neighbour's bushes that hang over a bit. (and I'm trying to take the eye away from tat too) I had a bunch of morning glories in the middle on a net, but they didn't thrive there because they do better with more hours of full sun.
