Well.. this is a personal subject but I needed to ask everyone if they have any idea's to help my daughter out with the following problem.
She just turned 14 and has had a very large growing spurt in the last 2-3 months. She has also started her period in the last 5 months. Now she has developed red stretch marks on the inside of her thighs and around her breasts , she is so upset and uncomfortable with these lines that she will not wear shorts or a bathing suit. Is this natural, will they go away or fade and is there anything she can use right now to fade these marks away.
My other daughter did not go thru anything like this, and neither have any of her friends.
Your suggestions are greatly appreciated

Hi Everyone, thank you for your thoughts and opinions. Yes... the trying times of teenager years, I will try the Elastin/Collegen creams as this is also something I was researching. She has been developing more or them and really is getting discouraged, but I think If I try to help her with creams she will feel better .
I am certain they will fade over time. Dh has them, (his sister too) and a few years ago I noticed DD had some as well. DD doesn't seem too troubled about it, but that might have something to do with how all the girls around here seem to wear 'surf shorts' over their bikinis in the pool.
Probably my best advice to you would be to continue having that ear she needs, and do what you can to help her develop a positive self-image. If she expresses an interest or wants to cover the marks on her legs, try google searches (or ask a dermatologist?) about camouflage cosmetic products useful for covering port wine stain birthmarks-I believe there are a few on the market and Dermablend is one brand that comes to mind. (20 shades, waterproof) It's a little expensive, but worth the price if it boosts her confidence,
I've never been a fan of self-tanning products, but I've heard they have improved a lot over the years. Various cosmetic lines have their own, and there must be sites on the internet that have consumer reviews which may help. I don't know if they would have the result she would like, but it's another option to try.
I apologize if you thought I was trivializing your child's issue, it wasn't what I intended at all. I guess it's hard over the internet with strangers sometimes, my intent was support only.
.
No worries Wolfbaby.:).. even more reason for us needing the emoticons working since the internet can feel expression-less without them.
Teens can be a troubling time for parenting. I have two teens that are so different it amazes me. And sometimes when you think you have it all figured out and it is clear sailing ahead.....whoops!!! upside down we go and it seems like a whole new ball game.
Anyway, that is a whole other thread!!
Sigh, acutally, I'm not there yet. My only is 11, and I'm terrified. I just found, with myself, my friends, my neices and nephews, (which I am surrounded with at various stages of teenagedom) each and every one seems to have had a mountain to climb, so I guess I sometimes feel like a mountain is a part of the transition to adulthood.

The vitamin D thing with sun - I so agree - what a dilemma! It's so hard to know what's right and what's harmful these days.
Best to visit a dermatologists to get a more accurate answer for this.
There is always something about the teenage years that really is a huge drag, so your teens can rest assured that at least they know what their "drag" is and can carry on.
Well, it is safe to say that perhaps you have experienced the 'teen years' with your own child but are presumably not immersed in them at present. Believe me their drag can feel quite large in scope.
And...as a skin cancer patient, the sun tanning thing can seem quite real. I try to figure out how to get that vitamin D quota in without the real thing. It ain't easy...that I can say.:)
However, getting enough vitamin D is essential, and the best source is the sun, which requires no sunscreen for at least 20 minutes 3 x a week. Preferably not mid day when the UV index is at it's highest. Do this, don't do that - lol.
I've been told that Bio Oil for stretch marks has helped some people, although I haven't tried it myself, people who have tried it have said it helped.

Interesting. I was told the opposite. But actually tanning is not something I would promote with a teen since these days teens are on the increase for melanoma. I think we have to make tanning a thing of the past.
I know it is strange but then again I did not really get a lot of stretch marks during my pregnancy. What I did get faded quite a bit that I do not really notice them but then again I am not a teenager so they don't bother me.
It is a good idea to do the research and I cannot even be sure that the cream will work. There are a lot of products on the market it seems. There were some natural creams advertised as well which make some great claims but I don't know how successful any of them are.
Best of luck. Let me know if you hit something wonderful in your search.
I hear that cocoa butter is also very good in helping to prevent of new marks. Check out the palmers brand at any drug store.
Well Lessismore thank you so much for your info, sad as it is, I will go out and get her some vitamin E and I think I will do some more research and see if there is anything else. She has quite a few of them. Isn't that funny that we both have 2 kids but only one of them have developed this.
OMG....I can totally relate to you on this one. My daughter who is 17 did not experience this but my 15 year old son is dealing with this as well. He grew an enormous amount in a short period and is presently 5 foot 11 with a size 12 shoe. He is towering over me and I am told by his doctor that he still has more growing to do. The inside of his upper arms have stretch marks and his upper thighs as well.
The skin has stretched due to rapid growth. Similar to stretch marks developed during pregnancy, massaging the area with creams such as a vitamin E cream will help fade the stretch marks. Apparently some of us, as in pregnancy, are more susceptible than others.
The bad news is that apparently you cannot get rid of them completely but they will fade naturally over time.
As if teenagers need anything extra on their plate at this time in their life.
