Hi Everyone!
I am new to the forums, but I have loved reading everyone's great ideas and input so far. I have just purchased a house with my husband - to- be and we have a kitchen that is nice and open. The problem is I would love to update it a bit. We do not have a lot of money to spend on reno so I want to keep it as budget friendly as possible. For that reason, the floor and countertops have to stay. I have read the posts about taking out the oak trim (which as you can see has already been painted) and I love that idea! Does anyone else have any imput or ideas? Thanks so much!

I suggest you also try to get Christmas-themed home furniture
Thanks everyone for the great response. I love the table that was suggested, that is right on tract with what I was thinking. The blinds from IKEA would also look really great in there. I will keep everyone updated on what we decided to do. I am glad boxing day is coming up soon - hopefully we will find some great deals!
Lots of good suggestions so far.
I'd even throw a tablecloth from Homesense over the table before you decide what to to regarding that. It does throw the whole look off though. I don't mind the trim on the cabinet doors painted gray at all.
Hi there,
I like the grey and white that is going on in the room so far. It's very on trend. I have a few suggestions for you to think about,,,
remove the vertical blinds and replace with a metal rod and curtains in a bold pattern - I saw this one on the ikea website - something like this would be great.
remove that joiner bar over the sink, and the blinds, and hang a roman blind in the same pattern as the curtain panels
the kitchen table and chairs are too heavy and are competing with the modern look of your cabinets. I hate to say it, but, you should consider replacing that set (you can sell it on craigslist) and put that money towards a table and chairs. Again, I would recommend Ikea for the price point, you could do the Gilbert chairs with just a plain rectangle wood table (maybe stain one of the pine ones in a grey wash). put a large area rug under the set.
Also agree with the others in some new lighting, the chandelier over the table is too high by the way.
hope that gives you some ideas!
I love these posters.....
Here are some examples of posters that you could hang to add colour and interest to your kitchen.......;)
First of all CONGRATS to u both......:clapping:
There is so much potential here, once u get it completed u'll have yourself one beautiful kitchen.... I totally understand u to the budget friendly thing... Here's a few things I'd do to your kitchen this is a wish list as u have to watch your budget but take it from me "experience" make up a wish list of what u truely love and save up for it....because if u do something other then that u usually go to your first initial goal....
Wishlist: walls - sands of time, trim - white, drapes - merlot, window coverings -- white 2" faux wood blinds, sliding door coverings -- white tranparent rollerblinds, flooring -- laminate walnut colour, furniture -- cherry colour or brown/black colour, appliances -- stainless steel, countertop -- would get a stone lookalike in the grey colour family.
These are just some of my ideas, but some of these girls in here have such great taste as well.....GOOD LUCK and keep us posted:)
If budget is a concern I would leave the kitchen as is, except for some updated lighting. Perhaps a couple of pendant lights over the peninsula and some modern track lighting in the working area.
Your kitchen has a modern, contemporary feel (now that the oak has been painted out) however your kitchen furniture is more "country". I would suggest either painting the table, chairs and cabinet a glossy black.... OR perhaps splurging for a new up to date dining set (see inspiration pic). Then choose a colour you love for accents (table mats, canisters, kitchen themed posters, ect.)
