Now that the bathrooms are almost done I can start thinking about the kitchen.
Still in the conception stage, I need your valuable input.
The kitchen is currently a squarish room 10' X 12' with cabinets, appliances and sink on 2 walls and the other 2 walls are bare because it's an eat in kitchen circa late 60's but it makes no sense as the dining room is just steps away. The kitchen and dining room are seperated by the stairs going down to the basement.
So an idea thrown around was to knock out the stair walls to waist height to open up the dining room and kitchen to give the house a more updated feel.
My only concern is that it will mean loosing an entire wall of upper cabinets for storage. Is this a valid concern? I'm not sure I need the space but maybe it just feels that way since there are still many boxes that need to be unpacked in the kitchen. I do plan on getting cabinets to go up to the ceiling anyway.
Speaking of cabinets, I was going to go with some reddish brown cabinets from Ikea. Adel in medium brown with white appliances. I like the Stat in white too though but I think it would be too stark looking compared to everything else when/if the rooms are opened up as I have very little white anything. The dining room furniture is reddish brown and the living room has a mixture of wood colours and species :o Sorry folks. Now I have seen some creamy white cabinets from Rona (haven't priced them yet so they might not be too budget friendly) that I think might work well with everything but what colour appliances to go with creamy white cabinets? I'm thinking stainless steel might not be affordable and I don't want black which leaves bisque that might not match the creamy white or white which I'm not sure about. Thoughts on that?
