Saw the new collection, some nice pieces, some similar pieces as before. I bought the wood/glass coffee table, exactly what my space needed.
And before anyone starts.. this is for the people who are budget minded, don't want to hear a debate about price and quailty, cheapening my husband's work and investment pieces.. blah blah blah.. I took me 3 days to post this, the atmosphere around here is really annoying me.

for all the info - very informative.
about an independent store, that is what we have here and they carry the same stuff too

I don't think there is a Loblaws there ( there isn't here in Saskatoon), but I know that Superstore carries it and possibly Extra Foods too. I believe all those stores are the same company. I noticed that in the new Superstore flyer that it says in 2 weeks, a special furniture flyer will be out. I was in there yesterday and they had some of the furniture in-store already so the ones in Edmonton will have some too.

I live out in Edmonton. Can anyone tell me if theres a Loblaws Furniture store out this way.
I never heard of this place, sounds great. Also is there a website for it?
Sounds like those club chairs would be perfect in a guest bedroom. Looks good, but wouldn't necessarily get a lot of long term use at one time. Most of the time, when I've been a guest, I've used the chair in the room for my clothes, to keep them off the floor!
Just wanted to let everyone know that i found the loblaws type furniture, which i love btw, at my local Zehrs store! I notice the club chairs, they sell for 249.00 each. Yes they are smal but what about using them for a guest bedroom?
My Dad has worked for Blaws my whole life. He is a butcher who accually went to college to become one. He chooses to work there as they have always treated him very well. I also worked at the same store as my dad as a florist while I was in college. WE had very good refund polcies in my deartment, if a plant died and the person did or did not have the bill, we would either refund the money or give them a new plan. I also found that they are very good when it comes to triaining staff. They have a corp head office and they will send out ppl from there to do the in-store training. I have never had any problems dealing with anyone at any of the blaws stores I have been to. But that is just my experiance.
good point... :)
is with the cashiers and floor staff, I think the problem is with management in the store. Most employees are part-time and there are NO provisions made for training or for updating them on new policy - or old policy either. That would require paying to educate them and that would drive prices up and customers would not shop. Most of the time it is "on the job' training for all staff. The woman with the pillows was probably sent over from e.g. the meat department, because they were slow there and it was not her area of expertise.
I understand your frustration.
i've had that too Smoodgie.... ...i thought they were supposed to train them on all that stuff....half of the time i don't think the cashiers know what the heck to do with some of the stuff....and forget asking someone about something...i was in there the other day looking for some throws that they had in their ad...well ofcourse i couldn't find them...so i see a girl fixing a shelf with pillows...so i walked up to her and asked her about them...her response...''i'm sorry this isn't my department''...ummmm...ok....then what the hell was she in there fixing the pillows for.....
bbyrne, thanks for the tips on Loblaws' return policy. I haven't had any trouble returning things with receipts -- oh, except for once when I tried to return what I thought was shorts but turned out to be swimming trunks. The best they would do was give me a credit that I had to use it that day. When I showed the credit note to the cashier, she was totally confused, had to go get a manager, etc. Oh well, at least I didn't lose my money on the deal!!
i like configuration number 2....the one with the chairs at opposite ends of eachother
in the summer...they aren't bad..bit stiff but we purchased them for the sole purpose of having extra chairs in the basement. We do have an original barcelona (thank you gran for giving it to me years ago) as well as a barcelona that we bought at Deboer's. Neither the blah's ones or the made under licence one even remotely compares to the original in comfort - but they sure look pretty...lol
k...my little buyer beware thing on buying from blah's. Although Blah's has a fairly decent return policy on defective merchandise, getting a full refund will depend entirely on having your original reciept. If you tossed your receipt, and the item you have purchased breaks or stops functioning two things happen.
1. If they are still carrying the item, you'll get a replacement HOWEVER, blah's has a habit of only stocking certain items for a very short duration so finding a replacement may prove difficult.
2. If you don't have your receipt and they've stopped stocking the item in question all you will be refunded is the LAST CLEARANCE PRICE the item was sold at.
We bought a SS coffee maker last Jan. It met our needs but in Sept, it just stopped working so I asked up at the blah's where we bought it what is the process for getting it either fixed, replaced or refunded. They stopped carrying that item so replacing it was out and they won't fix it so if I returned it without a receipt all we could expect back in a refund was a whopping 18.00 (last price on clearance - we paid 70.00 for it). Luckily, I'm quite anal about filing receipts so I was able to dig it out and return the item for a full refund. However, when you do return it if your bought it on your debit card, credit care etc make sure you have it with you because that's the only way they will process your refund is to credit what ever card you used. (I had left the debit card we had used for that purchase at home and had to drive all the back home to get it.. DOH!)
So morale of this.. if your buy anything from blah's SAVE your original receipt. Because chances are if the item proves defective, you won't just be able to get a replacement it'll be a refund situation.
That superstore had a barcelona daybed. I have been looking for one for my foyer. How much was it? Man, you guys out east get everything first. I will definitly have to keep my eyes peeled. I agree with them having great looking furniture at a great price. I always buy "more economical" furniture because I am always redecorating and DH would have the big one if we spent any more. I can hardly wait to see the return of the furniture at Superstore.
is really trying to meet the consumer's need for beautiful things at reasonable prices. I was reading the latest issue of Style at Home and they had an article on just that and the designer who is designing the pieces. I love the square white plates with red berrie branches up the side.
Karenm - your room looks like it is coming along very nicely. That table is a great find. I think we will only see more and more stylish, affordable pieces to come in the future. I can see some round vases in that room to soften the angular pieces. I like that you have designed the room to be so versatile, as well. Very well thought out.
The coffee table works so well in your space -- great find!!
I like the L-shaped configuration in your first photo. It has a more cozy & intimate look/feel. But really, regardless of how you arrange your furniture, the room and your home are lovely :)
wow that is an awesome table....gosh they get nice stuff in there....have you decided which way to leave the room....that is a hard decision as with the coffee table, both looked very nice....ooo and i finally seen your abstract art one of the other members spoke of....very nice. Your home is beautiful and how rewarding that you both created such a warm lovely place

That looks great! It does look really sturdy. A chunkier styling than their previous ones. The glass is bevelled too! I'm really impressed. Good buy, you've been looking for quite a while, I'm glad you found something that works so well there. A good deal certainly sweetens it too!
Well done, as always!

oops..no i got my table there 2 years ago for $50...my chairs (bicast)are gonna cost $120 each...sorry :o
I didn't see any light wood at all. Maybe the folding screen?
ANyways.. if you want to see photos of the coffee table. It's a heavy dark wood, 2 shelves and glass insert on the top. It is very sturdy and $150. It might go on sale, but we're going on vacation in 1 week so likely it'll be sold out before we come back so we figured just buy it and be sure to have it.
This is the furniture normally in the room, as you can see, we can't use it because there's no coffee table.

Here's one configuration for seating. (the sofa here is temporary, we're trying out the leather sofa in the family room to decide if we want leather in there). As you can see, while the table is large, it really holds the space and everyone can reach it without stretching. I can accommodate another pair of more open frame chairs here, plus bring in 2 dining chairs to seat 4 more people! Great for entertaining.

Another configuration.

Closeup of the coffee table. It's as heavy as it looks!

BTW, I love having hardwood and cushy stuff under the furniture. I can move it so easily!!
We're really happy with the purchase, I think a smaller coffee table would've looked too dinky, and the square shape really allows flexibility in furniture placement.
I just finished posting about the club chair in the Free for All Forum - Superstore vs Loblaws, I think was the thread over there, and then discovered this thread, I agreed with Karenm about the scale of the chair. I still can't get over how small that chair is. It was comfortable, but just would look out of scale at my house. Maybe if I put some dolls on it or something? :D
I really, really like that round chrome side table for $50. I have absolutely nowhere to put it though, it just wouldn't go with anything in my house.
Thanks kja :) I might head over to Loblaws tonight and take a peek at what they've got. One thing I learned with the espresso furniture -- if you see it and like it, buy it right away, because it has a habit of selling our fast!! You can always returm stuff later if it doesn't work out :)
We are buying the table tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just at Loblaws today and most of the new furniture is a dark wood. They have a lot of nice pieces for reasonable prices. I really like the big square ottoman for $199. I'm still waiting for the king headboard.... It's sold out in Oakville and Mississauga. If I see any lighter wood there then I'll post it for you. :)
karenm, is the furniture mostly dark wood, or do they have light wood too?? I'm looking for some inexpensive pieces for the basement in a light wood. I should pop over to Loblaws tonight and check out what they have -- their stuff seems to get scooped up pretty fast!!
also has the furniture in. some pieces are excellent looking. the brick and leons and those type stores pump out trashy looking furniture that lack style in my opinion (trying not to sound snobby) for deals too but at least with loblaws you can get stylish looking peices. i'm still thrilled with the barcelona floor lamp i picked up last year for $15!
everything has a use and i totally agree that not everyones wants, needs and means are comparable. i love finding bargains and feel so much better about bringing something new into the house knowing that i didn't have to go into hawk for it. i also scour outlet and liquidation centres when i want quality without the pricetag!
Hey Karenm,
First I have to say I LOVED YOUR FIRST POST!! ;) I agree that there's been a bit of snobbery going on here as of late..and personally..I don't like it much. That being said, a deal is a deal is a deal. What we like and what we can actually "afford" are not always one and the same. Who freakin' cares if your coffee table cost $50 or $5000?? As long as you love it and it works for you..then go for it. Geez, we've never bought anything that cost over $1000..and that includes our bedroom set. (That's right...I said SET!!) My sofa from Sears was originally $1059. and we bought the floor model on sale for $599. I wanted that couch for 2 years..then finally when it went on sale...YAY!! I guess what I'm trying to say is, people around here need to get a grip and understand that for some of us..the bare essentials come first, the decorative..well thats a little bonus.
God..I just went on a rant, eh?? Oh well
:( Mel
Oh..and I LOVE Loblaws stuff too. I especially love when they sell it off. :)
what do you mean they have leather parsons there for $50???
I'm anxious to see what's new there.
My partner was in the other day (no time to browse), and said they have a club chair, small but good for a tight space....
anyone see it, ?...
also, do they have any side tables...espresso?
thx
I saw the club chair, definitely small scale. Not just in width, but lowness to the ground.. which, I actually liked. cuz i'm very petite and my feet don't usually touch the ground in normal sized chairs and it did on this one. It was nice and soft too, but may look a little out of scale with other furniture.
There was a cute kids vinyl recliner!
saw the chair O...very comfy!!!
