no its not a dog or even a cat, its another freaking hamster...DD#3 came home with another hamster from the BIL's house....she has had two of them die as most know they dont live long, but each time she is devastated, i was hoping she would not get another but after the death of her last, she was so upset at the time, stupid me says " give it some time and maybe we will get another one" it looks like mickey mouse, it doesnt even look like a hamster, but i guess it is a cute little critter..........oh what us parents dont do

i tell you mel your sister sounds like my DD, she is a lover of all animals, i had hamsters when i was growing up and i wouldnt even pick up the things now, he is cute to look at but no way am i touching her/him lol and yes DBD, i think it is a good lesson on life for them....i couldnt even argue the responsibility point as she has always taken responsibility for her hamsters lol and she sure is one happy camper for sure!

Well Janet,
Congrats on the new addition!! These little rodents are teaching your DD a valuable lesson about life..and death. I know it's probably hard though..for all of you. (I refer to them all as rodents..I hate them) We had rodents growing up as well...one actually died and my sister spent 2 hours giving the damn thing CPR. I kid you not...this is the honest truth. My sister has this "love all creatures..big and small" attitude.
On a slightly different note..we also got a new addition to our family on Sunday. DD turned 7 and decided she'd like to have a goldfish. (In addition to the 2 cats and dog we already have) So, we set off to get her a fishy. And we came home with a lovely little white/blue/red mix Beta. She named him Icy, and he seems to be fitting in allright with our other pets. Princess enjoys sitting up next to his little aquarium and watching him swim around. (Luckily we bought the aquarium with a snap top lid..as opposed to the open bowl ;) )
Anyhew...good luck with the rodent.
:) Mel

I bet she is a very happy girl. The one hard part about losing something you love is the hurt, but on the other hand if we didn't get such happiness while they are around we wouldn't care when they left. So I think it's a great thing that she is willing to risk that hurt again because of all of the positives she gets from her hamsters instead. She's probably picking up some good life lessons with something like this (here's hoping anyway).
