Hello everyone
It's Lynda here. Just reading your
comments about the new opener
and the new music...and hoping you'll
tell me more now that you may have
seen a few days of new shows.
Are you liking the content better?
I sure hope so!!
What subjects would you like to see
covered?
About the music, we thought it was
time for something new and we think
we should let this new song play for
awhile and see what you think in
a week or two. What do you think?
We really appreciate your feed back!!

Wow, you're like my idol! So, like HI!
Lynda has often mentioned to send the results back after giving advice. But I've never seen this happen. What's a before without an after. And after all the hard work it takes to put together the advice, it's the least someone could do.
It's nice to see that you value our input...I agree with most of what has been said...
My only suggestion would be...perhaps one of your decorators or stylists could do a "before and after" of a room supposedly decorated but that needs some editing...less is more??
Ask a designer, lets see. Some form of white or off white paint colour, black wrought iron drapery rods. new kithen faucet, new kitchen handles, and fabrics from Robert Allen. They can hire me to do that segment anytime.
I used to love ask a designer, but I thin the replies have gotten kind of predictable and repetative.
I really enjoy the house tours, and the design lessons where they use vignettes to show different styles and colour combinations.
I like shows that use a lot of creativity. Not so much a slave to trends and huge budgets.
I'm sure there are almost as many opinions as there are viewers to this season's new shows. Seems to me it is impossible to please every viewer. I thought this season's shows were the best yet. If I were to vote... my least favourite segment is Ask A Designer!
I must admit H & H is no longer my absolute favourite design show. Not enough ask a designer now and the cooking segments and store watch segments don't interest me. I do watch the house tours if there is one on and sometimes tune in at the last minute for ask a designer.
I would love to see more ideas on products you can buy from stores availiable across Canada. Items from Restoration Hardware, and Caban are great but unavaliable to me here in Saskatoon.
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that the time change has nothing to do with House & Home, but with our network, HGTV. They are the ones that dictate what time slots are filled by which shows.
Switching to a one hour program would also be an issue for HGTV to approve. I'll let the big wigs know that you want more!!!
Love this segment of the show. Cannot get enough of most of them. There are some truly lovely homes in Canada and it is wonderful to have the opportunity to see them. Some enormous talent is exhibited.
I like to tape the show and watch it at my leisure. That way, I can replay any parts of interest or anything I may have missed in the first pass.
I love the new time slot. I work all day and never see it during the day, so to come home, have dinner, do errands and then settle in for the night, 9:30 pm is the perfect time for me. :-)
I don't care if I'm the only one, I still love the new opening music. What I am not loving is the new time slot. I find that I am missing more episodes than I care to. Why the change?
Oh yea!!!! I can live with an hour long H&H :-) I asked a few days ago what the possibility was of actually going to an hour long show. I'd love that!
Good suggestion Nadia! :-)
I have a great idea to solve the more "ask a designer" suggestions.
Why not make the show an hour long instead of half an hour? That way, that particular segment won't be rushed.
How about it.
Lynda, if you're still reading, I've changed my mind about including more than 2 questions in the Ask A Designer segment. Tonite seemed rushed, and not the usual laid back and very detailed responses. I understand now! :-) Maybe if the questions were short, but if they are involved questions, just covering the one subject might be sufficient. One of the big differences in H&H as compared to other shows is the way H&H is so laid back and very thoughtful in its responses to issues. I like that approach. So, that's my two cents worth! :-) Keep up the great work.
Thanks for your comment.
I know...I would like to do
more questions too, but we
never seem to have enough time.
But we are hoping to do more
in the future.
thanks for watching
Lynda
I have only 5 words...More "Ask a Designer" please!!!! I cannot get enough. I guess that was 9!
Firstly, Im so glad to see this new season. In Vancouver we were seeing such old shows that the ideas were outdated! I like the music but I immediately thought of Divine Design with Candace and that is where you probably got the idea. I love the show and the magazine but would love to see articles on more modest homes - like the one in Langley in the Nov issue. I have several friends who have had their houses featured in your mag but the majority of us are not in that category. An article or segment in each issue that someone has put together themselves. Like Meg's! I also am getting tired of seeing Toronto stores. All in all, I love the show and even had my husband watching the other night to see what was new in TV's. Thanks for asking for our comments.
the music seems *alright* to me, but as soon as the da da da starts, that's when i press mute. as for the cartoons, i like the animation style. I find it's nice and different :)
When the new song starts playing, I press the mute button until it's over.
I've been watching house and home for years and have to admit that I've never noticed the opening before. I like the new look. It's fresh and fun and bit more modern. I also really like the music, it lingers in my mind throughout the day.
The new set is fantastic. My only comment is about the size of the ottoman in the living space. I find it a bit large for carrying on an intimate conversation when people are sitting across from one another.
I know this is a set but on occasion when you do have a design forum perhaps an alternative seating plan would be more appropriate.
I'm glad to see that the show is featuring more contemporary interiors and hope this will continue.
I think that the graphics in the opening of the new House and Home
season is perhaps inspired by Trading Spaces opening. It just occurred to me :) Am I right? What do you guys think?
If I am right, I personally always thought that House and Home had a higher quality than other shows like Trading Spaces. And, those shows should copy House and Home and not the other way around!
I'm afraid I find the opening music VERY annoying but I really like the new set. I like seeing as much of a home as possible as it helps us to see how others tie their home together. I agree that the "Ask a Designer" could include other guests opinions and suggestions and should be geared to moderate budgets. Great show-I never miss it.
Our Ask A Designer question schedule is available at the Television section of H&H.com.

Hello Lynda,
This is great, asking your audience for input, you're right there woman!!. I knew I picked a good show to watch. :-)
The feeling that I get from the show, is that it is mostly geared to people living in the Toronto area (I guess you can tell now that I am not from Toronto). I mean all the stores covered are in Toronto. Although I have to admit, a couple of shows ago, you did cover Uproar, a great store in Ottawa.
Even when you do visit stores in Toronto; I think it would be a great idea if the audience is informed if the store has branches in other cities.
And I agree with all the other comments of having more "Ask a Designer".
By the way, how do we know when and how (whether on TV or by mail) our questions will be answered after we send them in?
Keep up the great work.
I think the new music is really nice - the only part I don't like is the end where the singing starts - where did that come from?
The set is lovely - a dramatic change. I admit I really liked the old kitchen and am going to use it as inspiration in my new house, but I also like to see change on the set.
I too love Ask a Designer. As for having more featured stores, I live on the prairie and am not very interested in seeing more Toronto shops.
And I personally like seeing all of the home, I always felt shortchanged before when I only got to see the kitchen and family room.
Thanks for asking!
Congratulations!
Began watching the new season yesterday and I LOVE the new format including the opening and music theme! Just one tiny little irritant for me...the use of such words as hit, punch, and edge on many shows. I think I heard 'punchy edge' yesterday?
I've enjoyed the content of the show over the past few episodes. I agree with the Ask a Designer comment - I like the different floor plans suggested for a room.
My favourite segment is the featured store. A close second is the shopping segment that compares similar items of various quality and style (i.e ladders, ottomans, etc...).
It was also great to see Cameron again. He should be featured more often. I'm sure he'll have his own show one day.
However, my original comments about the "dah dah dah" and the "cartoon look" remain. Neither have grown on me. I have resorted to taping the show so I can FF through those parts.
My main concern about the cartoon opener, is that it no longer provides inspiration or ideas. I see it now as a waste of 15-30 seconds of airtime.
Thanks for asking Lynda! I am still a dedicated viewer :)
Mark.
1) Most of the home tours look like homes of the rich and famous - nice, but who is your target market? Given the photos and type of questions on "ask a designer" we are working with modest budgets. Look forward to more hands-on projects.
2) On the Sept 22 episode I appreciated the floor plan and the various floor plan options - use the computer to generate room what-ifs.
3) Include floor plans as much as possible - easier to visualize.
Keep up the great work.
Hi There,
Just wanted to let you know that our furniture, etc. is on loan from stores in the area. Everything goes back to them when we are finished taping for the year.
You can check out our set information by going to our homepage, then clicking Television, then About Our Set!
Thanks!
