A new shopping experience

I thought I'd share this in case it happens to anyone else and it might give you something to consider when a sales person is less than stellar.

Today I took my car in for a check up in one of those out of the way type places that mechanics are in and while I was waiting for a friend to pick me up I was wandering. Low and behold there was a flooring store nearby so I went in to see what they had.

They had one of those bells that rings when someone comes in, except this one rings about three times. Anyway I had a salesperson there in no time. So I asked about some tiles they had....he didn't know the price, they would have to be ordered and he wasn't sure if he could even get them (yeah right... they are the same tiles I've seen a number of times I was just trying to compare prices but so much for that). So I asked about the cork they had out. Well those were just samples and they don't actually sell that line. Actually they don't sell any cork (?? why have samples of something you don't sell??). Next was an oval carpet. I've not seen many of those so asked if they had other sizes. Nope, just this size and this is the only one, they can't get more, this is the floor model so not for sale (yet again...sample out but nothing for sale? huh?).

By then I am wondering what is going on and decide this guy isn't into selling anything to me so I left. When my friend arrived I mentioned the poor customer service and wondered how such a place stayed in business and she matter of factly says 'Oh, it's probably one of the money laundering places. They probably weren't too happy with you walking in there".

Well there was a concept that hadn't ever crossed my mind when shopping before. Maybe that's why we run into such crappy salespeople sometimes... they are into money laundering! WTF. I had never heard of such a thing nevermind every considered I would cross paths with such a thing but she said she has heard they are quite common. So I'll be thinking twice now when entering a store with a bell that goes off when someone comes in I can tell you.

Gee, now I am feeling the heebie geebies and like a total dimbulb for not grasping what was going on there at the time. There is no doubt about it, most of the time when there is some gang related or real tough stuff news, it's out in that part of the city.

I live in the NE now but consider it a whole different NE since it's Crescent Hieghts and this part of town is nothing like the part on the east side of Deerfoot. It would be nice if they could do something about that element that seems to think they can administer their own justice.

Meanwhile I was just over at the garage again (you know you have to go the garage instantly when they call to say their whatever it is wasn't callibrated correctly when they put the tires back on and they need to check the lug nuts. That gets your attention really quick I can tell you.) . I wonder how comfortable I would have felt had I read your email beforehand.

Right across the street from where DH works. Yep, there is no allegedly about it. DH's customers got to watch the live drama of a gang beating in the parking lot. When they finally realized they were being watched they bundled the poor kid into their car and took off - cops right behind em - they must have gotten over a doz. phone calls. He also seems to get an inordinate amount of people carrying guns in his establishment compared to the other locations in the city. That area of town is pretty scary, but I hear it is the next one scheduled for rejuvination.

Well now this would probably be an 'alleged' hardenend criminal as we are only speculating of course. It could also be a incredibly stupid store and salesperson. Anyway, it was up in the NE, behind whatever the Franklin Mall is calling itself these days, just north of where Ikea used to be (gads I just realized someone new to town wouldn't have the foggiest idea of where that is and directions like that drive me nuts...current things would be the Army & Navy a block north). So not the sleeziest district but certainly not the best either.

If I'd thought they might sell drugs there I might have asked what they sold by weight that would take my mind off of redoing floors.

what the hell area of town were you in...just so I can avoid it. I never think like that. It's kind of funny to think of you talking to a hardened criminal about tile and cork. Probably threw him for a loop.

Did you contact the police or crime stoppers with a heads up? They probably know about the place but then maybe they don't.

I read what you wrote to DH and he said right away that is exactly what they are doing money laundering or dealing drugs. Kinda freaky and all you wanted is to waste time.
