First Foot Day
First Foot Day marks the beginning of the New Year & is said to bring luck.
Should it be a man or woman to steps first in your door ?
Scottish tradition says a MAN must be the first person to cross the threshold into our homes on New Years and you must not let a woman come inside the house until a man does or it will be bad luck !
Some believe it should be a man with dark hair for good luck.
The Scots may bring a symbolic piece of coal, shortbread, salt, black buns & some whisky !
This superstition may come from the Viking days of long ago when it was not lucky to have a blond stranger arrive on your doorstep with a big axe:eek:
