Every year for New Years Eve we stay in and have a dinner party with family. We usually start early with skating on the lake or playing in the snow. We are always looking for something different to keep us entertained (and awake) until midnight. This year there will be eight of us so we came up with the idea that, rather than a full dinner, each person will prepare, serve a small appetizer course (and do clean up). This will stretch out the eating for several hours and should be fun.
Now everyone is on the lookout for great recipes. This challenge has our husbands a little panicky, since none of them cook...
He he, I love it!
Any suggestions for a great, warm appetizer, and wine pairing would be really helpful, too. Thanks

OMG, you have come to the right place. When we do a fondue, we go all out - shrimp, scallops, chicken, vegetables, breads, cheese, etc. I have a ton of Sauce recipes from Thai peanut sauces to bbq sauces to mediterranean sauces, etc. Let's exchange emails. :-) I can send them to you that way. :-) If you get a fondue, get one that has the cooking rock with it. I have a stainless steel fondue set and it's fabulous. I have a second one that we do dessert in. Fondues can be a lot of fun if you get together with a few friends, and lots of wine. hehahaha You can email me at home at sclee@ns.sympatico.ca
I have a sneaking suspicion I'm getting a fondue set for Christmas from my Dad. I've been hinting for years! Any good fondue recipes you wish to share?
Oooh, anytime you know of a good wine I would LOVE to hear about it. I don't have a lot of bottles - about 24 now.... I've been collecting for about 5 years. DH gives me something special every birthday and Christmas. I do also like Canadian wines....BC has had a few really good ones, and in particular one very special ice wine, but that got drank last year on Valentines :-) I also love to hear about nice champagnes. I don't have a lot of that, but love learning about them.
I remember growing up (about 17 or 18) when I thought Black Tower was the piece de resistance!!! LOL Ahhhhh then along comes experience! hehehe
Thanks Dekota Skye. Sounds delicious. I love scollops and you have the best ones right in your own backyard! I too am a wine lover, but not collector. It never lasts long enough to collect LOL.
What kind of wine is the Yellow Tail. Is it a chardonnay? (my fav)
I will look for it. I agree that australian wines are great. Especially for white. Chile does a great job of the red wines, and quite inexpensive. Have to tried Gate Negro merlot? About $9 in Ontario.
Some of my favourite appetizers are so easy... as for wine... I've been collecting for years. It's one area I know pretty well.
Ginger butter scallops - just saute your scallops until done, then drizzle with a ginger/curry/butter glaze (lightly). Wine: A dry white - I am a fan of Australian wines but wine is such a personal choice... last week I tried a new one called Yellow Tail. I understand that it's been taking festivals by storm, BUT....as good as it was, it's 13.5% and I have to tell you, after 3 glasses, I was ready for bed. Another one I really love is Porterville Cellars Sauvignon Blanc. It's great with seafood. Another one is Two Oceans (South African white). Nice and light with a lot of different foods.
In keeping with scallops - Scallop quiche - the little ones, in the tart pans. I make my own - and they are fabulous at dinner parties.
There's a couple of suggestions. :-) We do a fondue with 2 other couples every new Years Eve. I love dinner parties.
