I am a newbie to gardening. My father passed away four months ago and I find that gardening seems to be good therapy. I started a shade garden but really had no clue what I was doing. I planted some ferns, hostas, dogwoods, silver mound, spreading evergreens and Scottish moss. Everything is growing well and looks nice. I also added in some annual flowers for colour.
On the sunnier side of my house I planted tomatoes and zuchinni which are growing like crazy.
On the deck I have two planters that I am growing herbs in. I chose two types of basil, thyme, rosemary and sage.
One question I have is about what to do with the perenials to get them ready for winter. Do I have to cover them with mulch when the frost comes? I live in the prairies. I don't have any experience with gardening and I am pretty much just flying by the seat of my pants. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, --Holly
