NEVER EVER EVER GET Dole Spring Mix salad or any prewashed bagged greens ever! I just found a huge bug or moth in my mix! I am so ubelievably grossed out right now. I bought it because I was lazy to chop my own and it's faster but I feel so sick now. What if I ate one? What if there was more than one in there? I started eating the salad and was about 1/3rd done when I saw it. I usually pick the salad over before putting dressing or mixing it with other vegetables, but this time I must have missed it. I want to throw up. I am in shock and so grossed out.

Sorry, had to share -buyer beware.

Yes, well, he seemed to take it all in stride. Although, thinking back on it, I really shouldn't have been surprised. When I was a kid and I would have a friend over for supper, my dad would always announce that we were having some kind of roadkill for the meal.

Back to the bug thing - I just saw on an ad for the kid's discovery channel that there are approximately 8 bug legs in every chocolate bar.

I'm still undecided as to whether that will keep me away from it.

That is really funny saving a slug just because it hitched a ride all the way from California but you must a great DH as it never scared him away.

"They say" that you would be shocked if you actually knew how many bugs and worms you are eating in things like jams and cereals. But there is supposed to be more protien in a grasshopper than a steak!

The first time I brought my husband to meet my parents, my mother had found a slug on some broccoli that had come from California. She was keeping as a pet in a jar because she figured that because he made the trip from California he deserved to live. She named him "Arbuckle" for god's sake! So there I am trying to make a good impression and she pulls out this bloody slug named Arbuckle to show my boyfriend. I could have died! I think I would have gladly eaten it rather than have her boasting about it!

reading somewhere that all of us eat (swallow) at least one bug while asleep in our lifetimes. I wonder if it would count if you accidently eat one in a salad, then you would be safe from the asleep bug!

Which reminds me. I remember finding a burnt wasp in a my nacho platter at The Keg once. It oculd have easily been mistaken for a chunk of ground beef with melted cheese on it. Who watches every bite when you're eating nachos? you just grab and dip.

OK, I'm feeling nauseaus again. :(

that is gross!!!
sadly it doesn't only apply to bugs and prewashed packaged mixes...other things like twist ties and bandages have been found in salads in some very nice restaurants! talk about a turn off. :0(

Blechh! That's definitely yucky. I buy other brands of prewashed, particularly coleslaw and spinach, and I haven't been watching that closely for this kind of thing. Time to turn over a new leaf!
