First off, I am 58 and my hair is about six inches below my shoulders. I usually wear it in a ponytail low on the back of my head, and I don't have bangs or tendrils or anything like that. So it feels neat and tidy. The odd time I wear it down in loose waves/curls. It is in dandy condition, nice and thick and shiny (probably the best it's ever been, since I used to torture it with perms and colour and curling irons, etc.) It is brown with two white streaks from the temples and some white sprinkled through the rest of it.
Anyway, I was in a store the other day and there were two young girls, and they didn't seem to be paying any attention to me, but suddenly one of them said, quite loudly, "What looks more ridiculous than old bats with long hair?" I was surprised and about to leap to my hair's defense, but I have an optimistic streak, so then I thought, "Oh she didn't say it to hurt my feelings, because she doesn't think I look like an old bat."
However, the comment keeps niggling away at me (and it takes quite a lot of sink through my carapace of indifference to what anyone thinks), but now I wonder...does long hair look ridiculous on old bats? I mean, some styles for sure, can't see myself in spikes ;) . But if it's tidy and not in and of itself ridiculous-looking? (Part of the problem being that I don't see myself as an old bat to begin with...my figure is as good as it ever was, for what that's worth, I think I still look nice -- JMO though, might be subjective)...
Leaving that out of it, in general, what do you think in all brutal honesty? Does long hair look ridiculous on old bats? :o
