Yes, Home Depot also has the acid wash stain. I think it comes in about 6 to 10 different colours. It looks like it takes a little time, but rather easy to do.
isn't there an acid wash stain specifically for concrete? i've seen it used on programs like curb appeal, but not remebering the name of it. although i do remember it comes in a variety of colours, in blues, bronze etc.. the effect was beautiful.
If you are going to use the slab you might want to look at the patio blocks (wood slatted) or rubber tiles that are around. They all lock together and you can make different patterns/designs (with the wood ones looking more like a wooden patio in the end). YOu can get them at places like the big box stores, but check the prices as there are a few different versions of each and various prices. While googling for pictures I also see they have resin tiles out now.
I have a concrete patio which is a mess and got the plastic tiles for it and they have been really good.

Painting works too but you are up against frequent maintenance as horizontal exterior surfaces are killer on paint. meanwhile a flat slab would take no time at all to paint.
Why don't you look at some of the products on the market that you paint on to make the appearance of stone, tiles etc. There is Flex Rock at Home Hardware and Stone Effects (I think that's the name) at Home Depot. You could do a nice flagstone look.
