The bit of stretch in old t-shirts makes them good to cut up for garden ties. Just lay them flat and cut horizontal strips just over 1/2" thick. I find white ones a little too screamin' white, but black ones work out quite well because the sun fades the colour to almost that of tree bark.
I just cut up an old black t and a dark green t, and bagged the strips for spring. Hope there's something left of my clematis plants after the good bit of cold weather we've had! At any rate, I'm getting ready for Spring and thought I'd share.
