I just read that Oprah is up to 200 lbs again and embarrassed with her weight and calling herself a " Fat Cow". She is going to start in Jan a new lifestyle segmant on her show. Dr Oz and Bob Greene are going to be on it so it should be good. It maybe just what we need after the holidays. To bad for her she is a food addict and really beats herself up about her weight. She makes such a big deal about thenlose that when she pits it back on it is also a big deal. She hasn't picked out the dress for the Presidents Ball as she doesn't know what size to get.

If anyone can convince Americans that fat is chic it's Oprah. It wouldn't be too hard to do as many of them are so overweight and having a reason to justify it would be too easy. As long as people are healthy and a bit overweight it's ok but when they are grossly overweight and put their health on the line that's another story. The same could be said for the under fed starlets and the young women that emulate them. I wonder how brittle their bones are and what other long term health problems they are going to look forward to down the road.
It's very hard to loose weight as you get older so enforcing good eating habits when kids are young is important.
well said pearl!...........i feel so sad for her, and i get soooooooooo sick of seeing these skinny ass unhealthy girls on tv and people judging when they are not a twig. No wonder so many young girls and woman feel bad about themselves and wind up with eating disorders or beat themselves up.

PearlG..... I agree with you 100%. :clapping: As long as you are in good health, at some point in one's life you just have to accept who you are & what you weigh!
Dr. Oz was on the View yesterday (guess he's getting his own show next fall... another Oprah spin off makes the air waves) and he was saying people like Oprah because she has the high powered type A personality coming out from nothing to huge wealth, but still shows she has a lot of the same problems most people have so people really relate to her, rich or not, famous or not.
BTW he did mention Oprah will be having a special show in Jan with he and other experts to discuss why her weight has gone off the rails and what might be done to correct it. He mentioned that thryoid being such a common issue, as well as up/down weight, as they work through what could be going on it could help a lot of people who are facing the same issues. It will be interesting to see how they tackle this and if they can make a dent in some of the popular misconceptions or start steering people away from there being only one acceptable way to look.
I have to agree with one write up I saw that said this wouldn't even be an issue if it was a male who had gained weight but as soon as it's a female, it's in the press. This has to stop before another generation of woman ruin their health for the sake of 'thin'.
I have to admit I prefer "fat" Oprah. That's what gave her such a loyal following to begin with because she was just like everyone else.
I heard that her ratings actually go down when she loses weight. According to the source, her fans like her to stay overweight since she appears more "normal" given that so much of Hollywood already portrays the skinny and surgical look.
I feel for her being in the public like she is and not being thin like what people expect TV people to be it must be tough. I hope she can get ontrack again and get herself to a healthy weight. I am working hard at maintaining my weight after losing 35 lbs I am not going to gain it back. I don't want to be obessed about it but right now it is still to new I have tolearn to listen to my body and make good food choices. I read every label and if it is high in calorie I just don't buy it. I used to buy the Tim Hortons French Vanilla caps all the time until I saw that they were 1/2 my daily allowance at WW and man that stopped fast but I would kill for one so I don't ever have one or I would never stop again.
I too have the great distinction of having thyroid disease; have been on thyroid medication for about 20 years now...it has to be checked every couple of months or within two weeks mine can change drastically. It's been a nightmare, trying to control it. After a bout with Graves's Disease (enlargement of thyroid), I couldn't sleep, was jittery, had a high heart rate at high blood pressure...received radiation and then went so low, I couldn't get out of bed in the morning or barely lift a fork to eat...that was scary! For the past 20 years, I have been mostly overweight, but flip-flopping constantly anywhere from 30 lbs. and up...to top it off, I'm an insulin-dependant diabetic, so I HAVE to eat regular meals and enough food. My husband can't understand why I keep clothes that don't fit, but, I can swing anywhere from a size 14 to 18, so I hang on to my clothes. And,it's very hard, because I was born with a sweet tooth and as long as I completely stay away from sugar, I'm okay, but give me one bite of something sweet and I'm off and running! I think people have to know their own bodies, and keep trying even though it's a push all the time; like we know we're going to slip sometimes, but, we can't just give up and let it get the best of us! I admire Oprah cause she just keeps trying to find new or better ways to deal with her weight.
Over excersing makes you hate it. Over dieting makes you hate it. Too much healthy food makes you hate it. All of these put you back to where you where. You have to do a bit of everything that you like. Be logical. Oprah is a classical type A personality. She admits she has been eating junk. Your body can only take so much yo yoing and then it no longer knows how to respond.
I wouldn't care if I weighed 200lbs and everyone thought my friend Gayle was my lesbian lover, not if I had all her money. ;)
I had heard she was scared of working out because of her thyroid condition but I didn't know what that was all about. I thought it was crazy when I heard she got up at 4:30 every morning to work out, that's just nuts.
Well it's too bad she is calling herself names. I get where she is coming from. She was okay until her thyroid screwed her up and I get that too. All that work and then slammed with something that is hard to control so she probably threw in the towel for a while in frustration. She's got to be frustrated when you think she has access to whatever help a person could get and yet she still has problems with her weight. Sort of brings a real human element to the issue when people think 'you just need to do this or that' because it's bigger than that for a lot of people and heaven knows she's tried every angle there is trying to get a handle on it but it just keeps coming back to bite her.
It will be interesting to see how she tackles this as it could make a huge difference to people who get nothing but bull from their doctors and others who think they are just not trying or that don't understand how frustrating it can be.
