Are you sure it was squirrels? The squirrels and cardinals, blue jays eat from the deer food hopper at my daughters, but the deer get most of it.
Get out there and call the deer in for lunch. :) :)

I had lunch with my daughter today and she said they buy the deer food which is a mix of pellets, oats and other grains and molasses.
They buy a bag of just corn and mix the 2 together to go further and less costly. They buy at a feed store in Lachute.

Funny you should mention other wildlife, as last nite I had a rabbit threre for the longest time eating some spinach that I left and then she strolled into my backyard and stayed there awhile. Then a skunk came by...:) I have also seen a fox, but this was during the summer.

Thats awesome! I know the feeling because we sometimes have a momma and baby deer that stroll through our back yard too....it's quite an unexpected sight and a such a breath of fresh air.
Hope you have binoculars because you never know what other wildlife you'll see strolling by! :D

It is a mix sold just for deer I believe though maybe other widlife too. I know the squirrels and cardinals were eating it the day I was there. Seems to be pellets, corn, another grains and it smells like molasses.
They buy it in 50 lb. bag.

My daughter has a home on Lake McDonald, north of Lachute.

They made a wooden hopper to feed the deer and buy deer food at the local seed store.

Every time we go, there are deer eating 50 feet from her deck. Even her yappy little dogs do not scare them off.

They are truly a joy to watch.

We had them in our yard all the time where we used to live but they became a problem when the flowers came out they would eat evreything except daffodils.
