well i should say DH's new artwork....between us....shhhh! would i have bought another piece? not likely....not saying i dislike it...BUT! I have my eye on other pieces. However, the way i see it........this man puts up with me and does anything for me and trust me im high maintenance :p ...so i felt he deserved it. :D 99.9 percent of the time he lets me have my own way. Now some high mucky muck designers wouldnt call it artwork.....heaven forbid its not a signed original or one of a kind, yep it comes off a duplicated line  .........but in our home its artwork. :) the mirror is now moved to the dining area...at least that is now..........the way i change things that could change in a flash :D

i think i may have seen something similiar to that one in the stores....i love the colors in it.....now that pattern i could live with.....i dont have a linens n things here and dh would hang me if i ordered because he would fear that i would dislike it and want to send it back  im hoping to get out tomorrow and some looking.....thank you

I found this rug on Linen N Things web site ....It's 5x8...$230.00 and definitely will add some colour... If you like it, but don't have a LNT in your neighbourhood, you can order it online....
Sorry to hear that your other rug didn't work out...but don't you think that half the fun is shopping for it ??? :D
DBD...that is the one thing with sears, they can charge double for something that you may get for half the price somewhere else.....i didnt recall seeing the one you posted from CT but i was just sort of passing through quickly....i must go take a peek! Ones at least similiar to what i returned seem to be very hard to find..........most have these really funky patterns with lots of brown, which dont suit the sofa or my taste....i want some color, not more brown. Of course i could go to the carpet shops but i cant pay the prices, so that keeps me limited.

I think you should pass on those. They have a centre pattern you would have to follow which means less flexibility for you. Also I think those are a lot thinner and less soft than the one you had. I've had similar for my office and it was okay, but not soft to sit on that is for sure.
What about something like this? It's $129 and has enough colour to be interesting while not showing everything. From the picture it looks like it would go with your LR colours too.
yes DBD i totally agree, i dont want anything that is high maitenance....the only way i would use a cream shag would be in a 4x6 size which is just the size to set under the ottomon, any bigger would get dirty far too fast for my likeings. I havent given up, just have my moments :D so im still looking for one at least similiar to what i had. I found this one in the sears book in my price range...not sure about it, it would be something i would have to try....it is the second one on the pile

Well your luck with LR stuff is sure consistant I guess. Too bad about the rug.
the last picture is a nice carpet but you have kids and pets and I'm betting the texture would require some real work. If you had a list of criteria and colours you could use to compare to any rug you are looking at it might help you find one that works for you.
There are quite a few rugs on the Canadian Tire site and they deliver so that might help. HOme depot also delivers and has several different types. Using sites like that might give you more choices.
oh yes i did love the colors in the rug i had...but when i had seen this today something just caught my eye....not sure if it was the simple clean look or reminders of the my wonderful years growing up in the seventies. I think this is where my confusion comes from....love some color and love serene soft colors...see i told you, im a design disaster

I've seen that rug in person, it's a nice one. I kind of liked the darker colours and patterns of the one you just returned. Hmm. Weren't you enjoying them too?? Are you happier with simpler neutrals?
:biglol: :biglol: :biglol: that is just too funny! i needed that laugh. No, they didnt have any left but i was in Canadian Tire today and had seen this cream and taupe shag rug.........can you imagine, complete opposite of what i had but i did really like it.....i will post the picture, however the picture doesnt show the rug as nice as it actually was in the store....the centre is a soft cream and the outside border was a taupey shade

Aw, too bad about the rug. Did they have another one of the same you could exchange it for?

well we got it at discount do to a flaw....we thought it would be fine if the flaw stayed as is, however after a few vacummings it continued on down the binding, so with a close look DH wasnt convinced that the binding wouldnt have eventually started to unravel.........so it just wasnt worth the chance. When we returned it, it looked as though there were threads standing straight up along two lengths of the binding. thanks kipper!

Janet....are you anywhere near Pottery Barn at Yorkdale? They are having a sale on throw pillows and have tons in "your" colours.....nice warm fall colours which would look fabulous on your sofas!!!
skinny, and hey dont worry....im the biggest computer duh that ever walked. :D I do think i know what you are talking about, we were looking at these ones at homedepot, they go under the window but on the wall and they are only a couple feet wide.........which would be perfect! We would have to do that because a replacement one is just about as long and we cant remove this one as it is our biggest heat source....DH did remove one from the kitchen but the one in the dining area and living room heat the kitchen just fine. I dont know if we will get the one you speak of before the winter, you know that budget thing :D but if we dont sell in the spring i would certainly like to have one for next winter. Im still looking for side panels, im having a hard time deciding and it doesnt help when curtains are not plentiful where i live. Im loving the room, however, i still feel something is missing or i have gone wrong somewhere.....i know, sounds crazy! :p it is feeling warm, which is what i want...the only thing im not getting is a softness...i dont know! im not making sense. I think i just need to get a life. i tried a few cream pillows this weekend, didnt like the ones i tried............... :hairpull:

me again. I found out how to attach a pic a post however I'm feeling like a real dumb-dumb now because I don't know how to take a copy of a pic from a web-site to attach to a post.
I work with computers but have never done this sort of stuff before. Can anyone help this pic posting virgin?
I think the room is coming along nicely too. It's looking cozier by the minute. I would agree that a solid colour for the drapes would be the better choice and perhaps a lighter shade of one of the colours from the rug. I also would agree on not recovering the ottoman since you have your rug.
I was mulling over your baseboard heater and drapes dilema. Does the heater have to be that long? When we moved into our condo my DH decided he didn't like one of our living room's baseboard heater smack dab in the middle of a particular wall so he moved it along (opened up the drywall and moved the electrical cording) and then installed a newer one. Another time we wanted to put furniture into a corner but it would have blocked the heater so he took that one off and mounted a small square unit about 2 feet up the wall above the original location. The unit has a small fan inside that turns on and off via the termostat in the room. A little noisy at times but you get used to it.
I'm not sure how to attach pics to my posts so cannot show you. If anyone can give me info on this I would be happy to show you what we did.
Dawn, i think that is always my goal, i want everyone to come in our home and feel like they can just kick back and relax and feel right at home. It is ecspecially important for my DH and children to have this feel....there is enough stress in life. Thank you Dawn
Frenchie thank you for your compliments, do you have any of his art? if so please share  they do have a way of speaking to you and bringing you to a place that seems so peaceful in this otherwise hectic world. :) The rug certainly has made the room feel so much warmer...and im sure in the summer it will be rolled up to give the room a more cool feel. I have found that the rug adds the color and pattern i needed that i dont even need much in the way of pillows and other accents.

Hi Janet
Love your new art ! Of course, I'm also a Saunders fan.
Your new rug really makes the room look cozy. That is great for the fall and winter when it gets so darn cold. In spring and summer you can always remove it and you'll have a new look in the room.
Your new art looks great! They say that art should 'speak' to you, and when I look at the pieces in this room I think of something along the lines of the comfort and beauty of home. The pieces have a very welcoming feel and add a nice warmth to your room. Well done.
that looks really awesome, thank you....I was wondering if burnt orange went with gold walls but i think that could work if i dont go neutral. Joanna, yes on suggestion from dear smoodgie i did try gold but the gold tones i found didnt match well with the color of gold on the walls, so i gave up on that! :D The ottomon is actually still in good shape, so im not going to be too worried about doing something with that at this point. I have spotted some burnt orange throw pillows.....seem like a nice color but i would have to bring them home on a test run.....i was thinking a cream and burnt orange on the sofa and just one burnt orange on the loveseat. I dont want too many pillows because they always end up on the floor.....i think i will need to take a run to winners or homesense, they always have nice pillows.

Oh, I like that!!!!
Hmmm... or maybe an orangey colour would be nice..... not necessarily this shade, but I'm sure there's an orange in your rug that you could pull out.
I think curtains that are the same as or similar to your wall colour would work best. Don't have a reason why, that's just what I think when I look at the pic of your room :)
And I think your ottoman looks fine as it is :)
Janetc... What about getting the drapes from GT in the cream... And buying an extra set and use one of the pannles to recover the ottoman, and make some through pilliows out of the other one.
Hi Janet,
Have you thought of getting a curtain that will blend into the colour of your wall? I see (I think) that you have some of that colour in your carpet as well. I think that will look really beautifully neutral.. You won't easily get tired of it either.
Now that you have your carpet do you still think that you need to recover your ottoman? It looks in great shape.
I would pick one of the darker colours out of your carpet for the pillows....perhaps a stripe, or a plain with a contrasting welt. Because they will be "sitting" on a leather sofa I would pick heavier upholstery weight fabrics.....nothing too delicate. I know that you have been thinking of burnt orange....so how about burnt orange suede pillows, paired with a stripe....
