Our New Furbaby!!!

Well she is almost official...DH had spotted this little girl on kijiji before we even lost Sandy but I did not want to bring another furbaby in at that time, as i was worried it would upset Sandy with his old age and not feeling too well.  A week after losing Sandy Dh talked me into calling to see if she was still available, and sure enough she was. This little girl (15 months old) was living with four other adult shelties that were show dogs and the breeder likes to show her dogs but this little girl didn't like showing much as she is far too shy and didn't like the attention. Sadly she was at the back of the pack and didn't want much to do with humans, nor do i think they had much time for her.  It was decided that they didn't want to keep her because she wouldn't show, my heart went out to her, for some reason i felt she needed to be with us, she deserved a family that would give her a forever home and love her unconditionally. Has it been a easy journey? NOT AT ALL! matter a fact there was a time the breeder came to pick her up because we felt she was just too sad and just wanted to go back to the life she had, at that time she finally began to bark after six weeks of no barking and we were worried that she was going to become a fear biter, even though we wanted more for her and really didnt want to let her go. However, when the breeders husband showed up, she wanted no part of him, so we told him we would like to work with her more and so long as she didn't bite anyone we would not give up on her. We are now use to her bark and she has made no attempts at biting or showing any type of aggression and each day she will do some little thing that tells us she is making progress and making this her home. For example, she actually ate from a food dish last night that has been sitting on the floor since we got her....doesn't sound like a big deal but for her and us this was a big step as she would only eat in her crate at night when she knew everyone was a sleep. She is a couch potato and is so loving and affectionate with us but she takes time to warm up to visitors. I have faith she will grow to be a trusting calmer dog and alot of her anxieties will go over time. (sorry for the double pic)

She is gorgeous. It sounds like she's already coming around and having her resist the former owner could be very telling in how much better she is treated by you so she just may need some time. Eb was a very fearful dog but with some patience and finding a good trainer she came around.  You never know, one day she may just realize she trusts you and will relax or it could be bit by bit like it was with Eb.

What a cutie!  Congrats on the new addition.  She does not need to be a show dog - she already is a WINNER!

Hi Janet,

She's such a pretty girl.  Her big eyes make her look so gentle and caring.  She has found the right family if she wants love.  Every dog should be so lucky as to have a home like yours.

She's so cute!! Good to hear things are working out with her. Sometimes it takes a lot of work and patience to help a dog transition into your home. When I adopted Kylie way back in 1995, she was a pretty nasty dog. It was a few weeks before she let me and my family pat her. She never got over her paranoia about strangers, but she loved the people she knew.

Squirt, Carbo, and Jackson were the total opposite -- they were big lovers right from the start and had no trouble fitting in

Hope things continue to improve with your new pup
