Paint decisions..

The painter came yesterday for the final consultation. He took my Behr chips, politely tried not to sneer at the brand, and said he would prefer to have Glidden match the colours (Glidden is made by CIL, they also make Colour Your World and other brands). His recommendation is to use semi-gloss in the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as on the closet doors and trim, flat on the ceilings and eggshell everywhere else.

He is coming Saturday morning to get started.

I am a little nervous, but he has 24 years of experience and is obviously very confident, so I am going with his recommendations and I have been forced to decide about the chocolate accent wall in the living room (a go) and painting the oak baseboards off white (also a go).

My sunshine ceilings are gone, and track lights are up. The patio door valance and verticals are coming down and the garden doors with interior blinds should be installed within 2 weeks.

Bye bye, icy 80's grey, dusty valance and flourescent light. Hello warm white, clean window and halogen.

I had my doubts about the semi-gloss walls - I thought it should just go on the trim. But, the painter spoke with convincing confidence, and I began to doubt my original choice.

Thanks for your comments. When the painter shows up tomorrow (he is starting with the ceilings) I will tell him that only the trim and doors will be semi-gloss.

And Lisi, thanks for showing that great picture again. I absolutely love the cream and brown combination. It makes me think of something delicious! I think your room would be finished perfectly by a big chocolate brown ottoman. Mouldings would be nice, but it really looks finished and great the way it is.

For what it's worth... I have used cil-(cilux) throughout a large portion of my home. I absolutely love it & had I used from the start I would have used it all over....in my opinion it goes on wonderful & wipes up like a dream...I have the satin finish in my kitchen-looks closer to a matte finish with a very suttle sheen-fantastic! Lot's of traffic & entertaining & it's on my backsplash,( haven't gotten around to tiling it yet), I scrub the backsplash with ajax & it still looks great...n the MB I used the platinum eggshell- a bit more sheen than the satin. I prefer the satin.

Elsewhere, in the house I have Martha Stewart's (one step up from matte) & HATE it- cannot be wiped for anything. Hope I'm not adding to your confusion...sincerely want to help:) BTW- I had my MB paint colour matched from BEHR to Cil & they do a wonderful job...
