To Paint or Not to Paint

I am having a dilemna and really need some advice. We have 10 year old maple cabinets. They are factory stained in a light wash but, over time, they have become "pinky" in appearance. I don't like it. I am debating whether to paint them or, what to do. I can't afford to have them professionally redone but, we are handy and feel confident about taking them on. The question is, should we paint maple?

I would paint your cabinets, if you want a change. I have done this before and it turned out great! I used Benjamin and More, Fresh Start
as a primer, and used a white called Bavarian Ceam (not sure of the spelling). Hope this helps

I would have no trouble with the idea of painting them. You've had them for 10 years, and now you would like to have a change.

I appreciate there are many who would NEVER paint woodgrain or even fireplace brick, but I guess I'm not one of them. My FIL says my cabinets are maple, and I'm definitely painting them. (mine are 30 years old and really NEED it!)

Thanks for the advice. My countertop is laminate, in a black granite-look. I've thought about re-staining. There are alot of cabinets so I want to do the right thing. I like white cabinets (or a shade of white), and that's likely what we would do, if we were to paint.

Maple is nice wood and very "in" right now... I don't think I would paint over them if they are in decent condition. I would maybe strip them and bring them back to their original colour. If you want something easier and quicker, it may be better to paint them - I would go for white but that's just me. White cabinets go well with all styles - contemporary, country, traditional, etc. What colour is your counter?? And don't forget to change the hardware, it makes all the difference! Good luck!
