Painting - and no, not white

I have this table...my very tall table, some of you might know the battles I've fought with it...
In light of my beachy theme, and uhm...and that SOMEONE ;) ;) you know who you are!! ;) - pointed out perhaps dark colours wasn't my thing... - I was playing around with the idea of painting the table and antique it to make it look even MORE rustic and worn. Chipped paint etc. Anyways, here are some old ores (sp) that I like the colour on...
Honest opinions PLEASE!!

It sounds nice, I'm sorry I missed it.
My biggest problem is to work around the trim problem, probably why I'm having difficulties with other colour, not much goes with this ugly brown varnish. I like the antique blue and green, do you know which one I mean? Kinda like greyish green? I ordered a folding chair from Ikea that I don't need just because I loved the colour, hehe.

on the website, is it the bluish arm chair you mean?? Not a very good impression of the make-over.
I will just have to wait until H&H comes out here in trailerland.

Suzie, I really like the colour on those ores in my first pic, I though a greyish blue, toned down, might look good. I don't want white, I have to see the colour physically on something as I don't do to well with paint chips :)
Mary Anne -
I like the vaseline idea, but wouldn't this gel that I hear speak of work better?
I am so DYI illiterate, it's hard to imagine me doing this.
I actually find the colour of the SR table to be too blah, it's either here nor there to me... I will look under the table to check out the true colour and varnish:)

You can do that?? on top of the wax? That definitely appeals to the lazy in me.
So would I prime it first, then apply my greyish blue colour and then this gel you speak of?

I believe it is just a very thin layer of wax, so it probably shouldn't be too hard to get off - that thingie you mention might do the trick !!

yes, never tried a sander, that should be interesting, perhaps I'll sand my way down to the basement...
I am thinking though that there is no varnish on my table, it's mahogony wood - isn't the wood that colour? Perhaps I could just paint right over it, or would the paint pop because of the wax? DO you know?

I have that picture in my obsessive folder :) I have been going by that room for a while - that and family affair - I am doing that bench...but...my table is so much darker - I think that's why I can't figure out the chairs either...Nothing seems to fit with the table colour as it is now...Except antique chairs, and that's going to have to wait $$$-wise...
I will check out Oprah this afternoon SuzieG, thanks, for the tip :) SR is not helping me right now, so perhaps crying to Oprah might inspire me.

Dy'n, I am patiently awaiting the next issue of H&H.

I was thinking that if I DO paint it...I can always paint it Turret Stair later, if all else fails...
I really wanted a real Harvest table that Vikings have eaten off of, but you can't find that here, and I'm not happy with the 50 year old replicas...
I'm rambling, I just woke up..

Thanks! Trying to convince DH it's a good idea..But I think it would work so much better!! :)

I can't wait either, a little annoyed because I had to shuffle some things around that they didn't have so I'm a little "upset" with some of the things I got. But next order to be placed soon so... :)

so you like the greyish blue? not a disaster to ruin the table for good?

I got so wrapped up in you not seeing the right colour ;) I forgot to answer your question, other accessories, uhm..white stuff?? ;) not sure yet, it will definitely be beachy :)
AS for chairs, I think with that greyish blue colour it might be easier to pick chairs - because then I could go with black chairs :)
