Thanks, Dekota, looks good!
I forgot to come back to check on this message. Sorry about that. Here's a pic of the chandelier after I painted it.
I really would like to see pictures of your painted chandelier, full view and close up (I'm thinking of doing something similar). Thank you very much!
I painted my brass chandelier in a flat black and all I did was primed it with kilz primer, tinted gray, (which you should do otherwise the paint will come off with an easy pick at it) then painted it black. I then used a gold craft paint to antique it. I can post a pic later if you want to see it.
A good primer first and then a good flat black spray paint. It works wonderfully.
I also painted my daughter;s kitchen cupboard handles which were 20 year old badly tarnished and distressed solid brass. I first ran them through my dishwasher 5 times to remove all dirt and any remaining varnish. I then used acrylic tole paints in various colours of black/dark brown and a hint of bronze. I then baked them in a very low oven (175) for a good 4 hours. When cool, I sprayed them with acrylic varnish and did this about 2-3 times. They look wonderful, saved her a bundle of money and are not chipping despite everyday use.
I have not done this myself, but I have considered it. I would try using a spray primer like the one by BIN (should be available at home depot) before I went ahead with black spray paint. Buy the best quality paint you can find, matte finish if you want the wrought iron look. You might want to try it on an old brass ornament first, just to see how it works. I find that a good primer will work with almost anything, as long as the surface is clean and dry before you start. Let me know how it works for you!
