My husband and I are planning building our own oversized mirror to lean against our dining room wall (inspired by the mirrors from Liberty in Vancouver). I would like to paint the frame (made of Mdf moulding from Home Depot), a gold colour for a gilded look. I would like the colour to have some depth-perhaps using two colours of gold-one for a base coat, and the second colour applied over top and "rubbed "off to create a more interesting-perhaps aged- patina. Does anyone have any suggestions for colours and /or process??????

I'd look at the antique golds, not too shiney.
Thanks for the tip. Is there any colour of gold that you would recommend?
Use metallic gold paint, paint mirror. Then find a burnt umber acrylic paint, mix with a bit of water and rub on and then off right away with a soft cloth. The dark colour will get into the crevaces giving the molding depth,
