painting question

hi!
My friend has a patch job. She is now ready for the primer. But does not know what kind of paint it is - oil or latex. Can she use 123 Bullseye and then paint over the wall with a latex? Does 123 Bullseye primer work for paint that with oil base? I thought she could . Thanks

and yes, Bulls Eye 123 will work over anything and then you can do latex.

Further to your question... with the right kind of primer, you can paint over a wall painted with an oil-based paint. Just ask your paint dealer for the correct primer. Then you can use a latex paint over the primer.

FYI - when doing a patch job on a wall, it's best to paint the entire wall - from corner to corner - and not just the patch. The reason for this is that when you just paint the patch, you can see it... it's so easy to see and looks unprofessional. If you paint from corner to corner, you can't tell that a wall has been repaired (unless the wall was poorly repaired, of course).

You can use nail polish remover on a cottonball to determine what kind of paint is on the wall. If the paint comes off with the nail polish remover, it's latex. If it doesn't come off, it's oil.
