Paintng doors to match wood trim

JanH's picture

Hi - I am brand new to the forum.

I have flat maple trim in my home that has been stained with minwax honey maple stain. Unfortunately, maple doors are beyond my budget at this time, so I have mdf interior doors and steel exterior doors. I am now trying to find a paint colour I can use on the mdf and steel doors to match the trim. I realize I cannot match it exactly.
I have BM Acorn Yellow and BM Boardwalk as possibilities.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Thank you so much for the quick replies. I really appreciate the suggestions, and although the black sounds stunning, I don't think it would work in our home.

Although it may be hard to see in the photos, the doors are now painted a creamy white, I can't remember the paint colour number. I find them to be too much of a contrast to the trim, and would like to find a soft tan / brown colour that would help the doors and trim blend better, if that makes sense.

Can anyone suggest a warm tan colour preferably from Benjamin Moore, that could achieve the look I am after.

Hi JanH, welcome to the forum! I am new to it, as well!
So you are asking about painting your doors to match the maple trim.
You have chosen two nice colours, but I really think you should avoid trying to match the doors to the trim. Because as you say, you'll never get an exact match (paint compared to wood) it's going to look just like that. I would pick a colour that compliments the trim. You could go with a nice warm white for the interior doors, like ivory white (CC-130) or everyone's favourite cloud white (CC-40). And then have a little fun with the front door and paint it a really dark colour, like a dark gray (Barnboad CC-572). This will make the windows in the door really pop!
Thanks, Steph
