My master bath is stuck in the 80's. Odd, since it was built in 1996, but there is no accounting for the former home owners taste, or serious lack there of. Anyhoo, the tiles are just yucky. Pink and purple floral thing going on. However, I don't have the money right now to do the home spa thing I really want, but I was thinking about peel and stick. I would of course do the floor, but I'd also like to do the steps and "deck" around the tub. Can I do it up that high? It would end up being about half-way up the wall. I would choose a fairly neutral colour scheme in both the tile and the paint so as not to be too jolting to the eye. What do you think? Has anyone done anything similar ?

i don't think you will be happy with the peel and stick. the cheap ones will curl up on the edges. if you want to go through the labour of painting, that might be your best option.
otherwise, what about some nice floor mats so minimize how many tiles you can see?
or what about getting some very thin plywood and cutting it to the size of the floor and laying the peel & stick on that? i don't know if that is practical or not, just an idea for creating a smooth and level surface.
Dont ever use them on anything! They eventually slide around leaving unsightly gaps. Then when you decide to fix the floor properly, you have an even bigger mess.
Hi again Laura. I think that instead of using peel and stick I would just paint the current tile. I would use a super adherent latex primer followed by a latex porch and floor paint (which will work for both the floor and the walls. You will need to clean the tile with TSP and then sand the tile with coarse sandpaper, but then you are ready to paint. The tile will look like new again!
My concern with using peel and stick is that you don't have a flat, smooth surface on which to adhere the tiles properly.
Hope this helps!
The tile is currently ceramic. It does go about halfway up the wall around the tub area of the bathroom. And yes, I probably would use white as the colour. I hope this helps. Thanks.
Hi LauraC1970,
Can you give us more details? Is the current tile peel and stick? Does it go halfway up the wall now? Are you thinking of just using a plain white peel and stick tile? I think that I could help you better if I knew the answers to these questions. Thanks!
