"Picture rail" Height

I was once massively addicted to this site as i waited for the closing date on my house to arrive. But then, when it came, the renovations and decorations took so much time i barely had the energy to sleep! But alas, here i am again, looking for some advice.

I have a love seat in my living room against a wall that is approxamitly the same length (slighty longer, with the sofa centerd). I purchased a picture rail to display art above the sofa (i.e. a mini shelf). Now, the questions: HOW HIGH should it be from the top of the couch and HOW LONG should it be relative to the length of the couch?

THANKS in advance for any input!

Robyn

welcome back

do you have any digital pictures to show us your wall?

I personally like it all along a wall....not just one little shelf above a sofa.(and as low as it can go so not to bump your head on it while sitting on the sofa)
Not sure how long your wall is.
and do you plan on larger size frames....similar pictures, say, black and white photography?

I think achieving the right scale of the pictures is very important.
