Plexiglass stair risers??

Has anyone ever seen plexiglass stair risers?? We're planning on finishing our loft space soon, and the first thing we'll need to do is to put in stairs so we can actually get up there!!

The stairs will go up through the floor, so it would be nice if we can keep the stairway as open as possible so we can get some light coming down into the hallway. I hate stairs that don't have risers, so I thought plexiglass (or some other transparent material) might work.

Am I totally nuts, or is this do-able??

Here's a picture of the wall where the stairs will go....

Not sure if your idea would be stable enough. We are having open riser stairs to our bedroom above the garage in our bungalow, but I wanted something affordable, modern and not slippery.
Fortunately you only have to worry about the first 2" of stair because that is where you will slip.
I think you might have to just do open riser in order to get the look you want.
I still don't know what we are doing. A nice piece of wood is extremely expensive, painting it is cheap. We were thinking of doing concrete steps on metal (our countertops will be concrete).
Good luck!
