Since the blisters have drained the itching has finally stopped! The best solution ended up being the hot water combined with Benadryl cream!
What about hot compresses?
A friend of mine had it once but it didn't seem to bother her too much, it was more unsightly than anything as I remember.
So far the best solution is "showering" the patch of poison ivy blisters with the hottest water I can stand. This takes away the itch the best..... better than calamine lotion or even Benadryl lotion.
I was in the drugstore yesterday looking at allergy meds (mine are really bad this year and I've become immune to many of the pills) and another customer asked about poison ivy, the Pharmacist said Benadryl was the best. Not very helpful if it doesn't work for you though.
Poison Ivy looks like raspberry plants but raspberries have hairy stems and poison ivy has brown stems, that's the only way I know the difference.
Dianne: Been there and done that! I feel for you. When I got it a few years ago, I ended up going to the doctors and got a type of cordisone cream which finally did the job. Calamine lotion did nothing for me either. To this day, I still don't know what poison ivy looks like. I researched it and looked at pictures but do you know how many 3 leaf, shiny green plants are out there. The only thing I read that could help as soon as you know you touched it is to wash the area with gasoline. Apparently, this is the only thing that will clean the 'oil' off your skin before you have any eruptions and can spread it. I did not try the gas as I had already had the open sores/eruptions. We have a ravine overgrown with trees, plants, weeds, etc. between our property and the farmers field behind us and we were trying to clear some of the brush back from our property when I got it. Poison Ivy is suppose to only grow on the edges of wooded areas. To this day, if DH is back in that area weed wacking and clearing stuff, I have him turn his clothes inside out before I will touch them and put them in the wash.
Good luck and happy scratching.;)
