pots and pans advice

Hi all,
I would like to get a new pots and pans set and need some advice.
We are getting a new gas cooktop, so I want something that will last. The two sets I have in mind are:
1. Kitchenaid 9 piece set s/s and metal handles
2. Henkels 7 piece set, non stick, resin handles.
The henkels are more expensive and look more heavy duty. I have non stick circulon right now (the concentric circles drive me crazy for cleaning!) so I wonder how it will stand up. Plus I have heard from others that with metal handles you can go from stove to oven (fry to bake).
Any suggestions??
Thank you : )

I love all things KitchenAid! I saw those in the flyer, I think. I'm sure you'll be pleased with them - and a great price!

Hi,
Thanks for all of the advice, I ended up going to homeoutfitters and getting the 9 piece all s/s (including the handles) set. Haven't used it yet, I am waiting for my new kitchen to use them. I think I made a good buy they were only $200 and I got 10% off for using my HBC card for the Bay's birthday.

are what I have on mine...would NEVER do it again, they eventually weaken from the heat ( we have gas). They don't actually melt or warp they just become brittle & cracked & start chipping then break right off...Definately metal..so many times I need to go stove to oven & have to transfer ( very annoying). And like hipfunky said- I would be open stock spend maybe the same money on maybe fewer items but at least get exactly what you need...just my 2 cents:)

i find buying pots and pans individually is better than going with a large set. every line has a few key items it seems, but you often end up with more than you need.

i splurged on the few pans that i use regularly and bought discount paderno factory seconds for the pans i don't use as often (still great pans though).

my key pieces are a deep casserole pot, a sauce pan, a deep teflon lined wok with lid, a cast iron frying pan, a pizza stone and a glazed ceramic lasagna pan. just about everything i make can be done in one of those.

also, picking things out yourself, you can buy some really nice pieces that can go right on the table for serving. i love glazed cast iron cookware in bright colours - but i like everything bright and cheerful
:-)

btw, i have never used henkel cookware before, but i do have their knives and i love them! excellent quality and they definitely last a lifetime.
